William Gallagher Obituary

William James Gallagher

Quechee, VT — William James Gallagher, 88, of Quechee, Vermont and Longboat Key, Florida passed away peacefully July 29th, 2022 accompanied by one of his sons.

Bill was born in Cleveland, OH to William F. Gallagher and Ella M. Gallagher. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School '52 and Xavier University '56. Bill enlisted in the Navy and served on an aircraft carrier becoming lifelong friends with roommate Willard Scott working on communications. He married Cecilie Anne Porier whom he met from Mt. Saint Joseph College in Cincinnati, started a family and began a career in metal cutting tools with Cleveland Twist Drill, Greenfield Industries and Federal Mogul.

Folks who knew Bill and Cecilie understood their love of Quechee, Vermont. Golf was the sport he loved. He taught his very young sons to love the game as well. He enjoyed tennis with his daughter Kathleen. Each Thanksgiving playing several chilly holes with their four children and dalmation became a tradition. Next to family his biggest connection to Quechee was his and Cecilie's large group of friends without whose companionship not much else mattered. From 1970's to today. Bill served on The Quechee Club Board of Directors, committees and volunteered for golf events. The Quechee Times Winter/Spring 2022 issue featured Bill in an article: A Quechee Lifer.

He is survived by sons Martin J. Gallagher of Scituate, MA, Kevin T. Gallagher of Malvern, PA and Ryan W. Gallagher of Tokyo, Japan. Grandsons Justin W. Chaudoin of Chicago, IL and George S. Chaudoin of Quincy, MA. William was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Cecilie A. Gallagher and daughter Kathleen K. Chaudoin of Sherborn, MA.

A gathering is being planned for late September/early October in Quechee, VT. In lieu of flowers kindly remember him by contributing to Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction.

I will miss Bill's quit wit and no nonsence opinions on most things. He was a friend at Spanish Main Yacht Club, Longboat Key, FL. where I helped him with some of the Tek issues with Laptop etc. We had our best conversations at the Local Watering holes and the many Covered Dish events at our Community Club House.

So sorry for your loss and also Quechee´s. A quick story...when your parents had their condo and had a shag rug we used to go there for drinks (of course!) and would try to guess what was hidden there...obviously with a couple in us some of the answers were too funny. If that is a recent picture of your Dad he certainly didn´t change.
Again sorry but he had a fun filled 88 years and he and your Mom entertained us all. Nancy
