I still cannot believe that your vibrant spirit has left this earth. As much as I miss her, I am comforted to know that your aunt, Emily, is by your side again up there with our beloved cat Cate. Rita

My husband and I recently stopped at the Blue Horse coffee shop in Donegal. We had met Katie there several years ago and thought of her often. When we inquired about her from the owner, he told us if her untimely passing last year. Although we knew her briefly, she left an impression that will last a lifetime.
What a compassionate, caring individual whom we are proud to call our friend.

Wish I could remember how we met, but I will never forget all the things you taught me.

So sad to learn of Katie´s death. I was honored to be one of Katie´s elementary education professors at Seton Hill. She had a way of quoting my teaching philosophies that made the entire class chuckle. And then, she would quote me by adding, "If we aren´t having fun, we aren´t learning. Right, Dr. Q.?" And, yes, she was so right.
I can easily imagine Katie Smith joking with the angels. Heaven just got one of the best! My condolences to her family.

Katie was truly an inspiration to her peers and to all of the faculty at Seton Hill. Her irrepressible spirit always brought a smile to me. It was my privilege to be her teacher at Seton Hill. My sympathy to her family. The world is a brighter place because she passed through. She is at peace and I wish her family to know that peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with Katie´s Family. I first met Katie when I would go to DON Services in Greensburg to exercise. We became fast friends and she always had something to give to me while I was there...crafts, sketch pads, coloring pages, molding clay, stress balls, but the one thing she gave to me that had meant the most other than her friendship and advice is a headband, because she knew I liked them. Spread your wings and fly, Katie! I will miss you!

I met Katie in a professional capacity about 8 years ago. She was a wonderful advocate for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life. I will always remember her enthusiasm and willingness to help in all ways possible. I am so saddened by her passing. She will live on in the work she did to help others.

I was fortunate to meet Katie through our boccia competitions. I knew she was an accomplished athlete and advocate, but now see that only scratched the surface of how wonderful a person she was. We will miss seeing her, miss her competitive spirit, and miss the quick wit and wonderful sense of humor she had. Our thoughts are with all of her family, friends, and coworkers. Thank you Katie for crossing our path. - Adam & Beth
