Francis McLaughlin Obituary

Francis J. McLaughlin, Jr. of Milton, Vermont and formerly of Gulfport, FL passed away in VT on September 26, 2021, following a long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis and ILD. He was surrounded by his loving wife and dear friends.

Fran is survived by his wife Susan; his daughters Katie (Brandon) and Meagan (Joe), and their mother Nancy; his daughter Cari; granddaughters Josephine and Angelina; and brothers Robert (Lawrence DiBona) and William McLaughlin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous extended family members.

Francis was born on September 29, 1951, in Upper Darby, PA. He spent his early years in the PA and NJ areas. After high school, he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He returned to civilian life, graduated from the USF (GO BULLS) and stayed in the St. Pete area. There he founded his general contracting business, FMI Inc., which he owned and operated until he semi-retired.

Fran had a deep love for the water, be it ocean, lake or pond. He spent time on the USF Marine Science research vessel, Bellow, in the St Pete area and built his waterfront dream home in Gulfport on Boca Ciega Bay. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving. He was an artist, musician and loyal friend.

Fran is also survived by a myriad of friends, especially Jimmy and Becky; Carn; Jimmy and Tammy; Ronnie; Dale and Debbie; Vince and Laura; Scott and Loretta; Bill Jr.; Bob and Shelley; Steve and Kelly; as well as his FN Kat, Mambo #5, who were an extension of his family that he loved and as they did him.

The funeral service and interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL will commence at 11 a.m. December 10. A celebration of Francis' life will follow at American Legion Post 125.
