James GREEN Obituary

September 1, 1952 – October 14, 2023

James "Jimmy" Green, 71, passed away on October 14th, 2023, in Spokane WA. Born at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI, on September 1st, 1952. With his father in the Air Force, Jim's family traveled all over the country until settling in Spokane.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1971 where he wrestled and ran cross country. He went on to Eastern Washington University where he studied Sociology and History.

After college, Jim began to live his life in the service of others. He worked for many years at the Interlake School, part of Lakeland Village in Medical Lake, WA for the developmentally disabled. Later in life, he worked as a volunteer and paid employee at Crosswalk; a program for homeless teenagers partnered with Volunteers of America. He could regularly be found participating in marches, protests, and city council meetings.

His true passion though, was making people laugh. Jim started his stand-up comedy career in 1982 and quickly became a fixture in the comedy community. Known as the "Legally Blind Designated Driver and Comedian", Jim had an incredible ability to do impressions as well as tell a great joke. His career in comedy spanned over 40 years playing clubs all over the Northwest, Midwest, and Canada. Jim was also an avid sports fan, particularly of basketball and football. He would often spend hours in conversation with his brother "Butch" about games they were watching.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Miles-Green, daughter Emily Routt (Bryant), son, Nathan Miles, brother Harry C. Green III, sister, Penny Reid, grandson, Bradley James, granddaughter, Marianne Dee, and his great-grandson, Hendrix James. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Johnson Green, his father, Harry C. Green Jr, and his mother, Penelope (Peg) Green.

A memorial service will be held on November 18th, 2023, 3 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church located at 4340 W. Whistalks Way in Spokane. Hennessey Funeral Home in Spokane, WA is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family, community, and friends.

When I was at Rogers High School I wrestled Jim. I also went to NCs wrestling camp where we wrestled. He was not the best wrestler but he had many friends including myself that used to listen to Jim tell many stories (many I would think were not exactly true) and get us laughing during the boring parts of NCs wrestling camp. Jim was in my weight, so I think I wrestled him twice. A guy I will always remember.
