Lonnie Tekaat Obituary

Lonnie Tekaat

April 4, 1967 - July 12, 2024

Cheyenne - Lonnie D. Tekaat, 57 passed away on July 12, 2024 after a 2 year battle with Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer) in Cheyenne, WY surrounded by family and friends.

Lonnie was born on April 4, 1967 to Del and Mary Tekaat in Santa Maria, CA. After graduating from Santa Maria High School in 1985, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country from 1986-1997.

Lonnie had a lifelong passion for racing. While growing up at the Santa Maria Speedway from a young age and watching his father own and tinker on several race cars, Lonnie himself got into racing later in life. He raced go-karts, dwarf cars and his last love was his hobby stock all with his wife alongside him as his pit crew. He also was an avid NASCAR fan and followed Dale Earnhardt, Sr., in the last 20 years Lonnie and Christy made it a tradition to attend a new track every year.

An avid tinkerer, Lonnie enjoyed working in the garage on various projects. Lonnie and friends would also enjoyed going for scenic rides on their Harley Davidsons. Lonnie found immense joy and camaraderie in his work with the men from Modesto Irrigation District, which gave him strength and purpose during the last year and a half of his life.

Lonnie played football from the age of 5 years old through high school, in which many of them today still have a strong brotherly bond and have found the game of golf and get together for tournaments 3 times a year.

Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Christy Sims-Tekaat; his daughters Chelsey and Brittney Tekaat of CA; Stepchildren Mike Sanchez (wife Jessica) of WY, Stephanie Bolio (husband Danny) of CT, and his 6 cherished grandsons. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Tekaat of OK; his sisters Delina Waker (husband Wes) of TX, Kratina Hodges (husband Dude) of OK; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Del Tekaat and brother Kenneth Tekaat.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Santa Maria Country Club at 6:00 PM (RSVP required). A military burial will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA at 1:00 PM.
