We are sad to announce the passing of Jeannie Black Newman. Through moments of challenge and loss, we celebrate her gift of kindness to others.
Jeannie was a graduate of Hamden High School in Connecticut followed by UC Berkley. She became a cherished mom to four children – Jeff Newman, Judy Newman, Jenny Stockford, and the late John Henry Newman Jr. She worked at Safeway as a popular checker for over two decades. She was a patient, loving wife of 63 years to John Henry Newman Sr. Jeannie loved tennis, gossip, naughty jokes, and Sinatra movies.
Our family would like to honor and acknowledge the loving folks and caring staff at Soquel Leisure Villa assisted living, the medical care team at Dominican Hospital, and the generous, caring neighbors and friends at Montevalle residential community in Scotts Valley.
If it is true that the measure of a glowing, successful life is the enduring gift of good feelings from others, then Jeannie indeed blessed her surroundings and her family. Loving wife, marvelous mom - our forever sunshine.
Remarkably, in a softening element to this occasion, her first great-grandchild was born on the same day and in the same hospital just a few hours before Jeannie passed away. Welcome, Lily Anna Bayuk - Jeannie would be so proud.

Jeannie was always loved by anyone she came in contact with. Gentle, caring, sweet, and always smiling. She will be missed by many. A real pleasure to work with.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of Jeannie, she truly was loved & an Angel on earth, I have so many fond memories of her & John, they are like family to me & my family, my heart prayers go out to John & the rest of the family, may God give you all comfort in these hard times & bless you in knowing you all will see her again in heaven

I had the "honor" of working with Jeannie at the Scott´s valley store for many years. She was a dream to work with. Beautiful smile, perfectly dressed and happy every day. She will be missed.
