Bruce Love Obituary

Bruce Love died peacefully at home on July 3, 2022, at the age of 105 years, 11 months, and 23 days, just a week before his 106th birthday.
Bruce was born July 10, 1916, in the small town of Peck, Idaho. His father had joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force and was fighting in Europe at the time.
Bruce remembers being very poor, at times having to sleep in a barn. He vividly remembered having no shoes and stepping on a snake.
His father, having been invalided back to London in 1919, returned later that year and moved the family to the gold mining town of Stewart, British Columbia, where he founded the telephone and electric company.
During high school, Bruce formed his own band and recycled beer bottles from the red light district, making $30 a month. After high school, he worked in the local gold mine for about the same pay. It was hard, grueling work. When his dad said, "Bruce would you like to go to College" he jumped at the chance. He never knew how his father came up with the money.
Bruce graduated from the University of Idaho in 1940 with a degree in electrical engineering. With the outbreak of World War II, Bruce got job offers from Charlotte, North Carolina, and San Diego. After going to the library to compare the climates of each city, he was off to San Diego with his new wife Eda.
After the War, Bruce worked for the Naval Bureau of Yards and Docks, retiring in 1969. He also did independent contracting, working on over 1500 jobs for various school districts in San Diego County. He did the electrical work for channel 10 TV, which opened in 1953. He loved what he did and didn't retire until the age of 99.
He was a kind, gentle, and loving man. A wonderful dancer and had a great sense of humor. He thought that the key to a long, happy life was a positive outlook, love your work, dancing, and a glass of wine in the evening.
Bruce was preceded in death by his wives Eda Hillman Love, Berdine McCrory Love, significant other Warrne Dawson, and his wife Ellee Hermes Love, who died just hours before him.
He is survived by his two children, Nancy and David Love of San Diego. Services will be held on Saturday, July 30th, at 1 pm at Glen Abbey, 3838 Bonita Rd. Bonita.
