Reverend Jerry Curtis Thornton

The Reverend Jerry Curtis Thornton, 84, finished his course on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle M.B. Church with viewing-visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

Born in Macon County, AL, "Curt" spent his early adult years in Orlando, FL where he sang gospel with the Mighty All Stars. He later moved to East Chicago, IL where he sang with the group, Traveling Kings. He worked at Inland Steel and after retiring, moved to Tallahassee in 2004 where he affiliated with Tabernacle. He enjoyed fishing and family gatherings.

Survivors include his wife, Mother Mittie Newman Thornton; children: Jerry Curtis Thornton, Jr., Ann Thornton Green (Isaac), Martin L. Thornton and Betty Fisher Johnson; stepsons: Daniel Newman (Tynetta) and Darryl Newman (Conchita); sisters: Rosietta "Rose" McDaniel and Annie Ruth Cooper; seven grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
