William J. "Billy" Richter, 51 passed away on August 30, 2021 at the Brookings Hospital. Born on August 16, 1970 in Sioux Falls, SD, Billy lived with foster parents for 14 months when he was adopted by Charles and Bernadette (Luze) Richter. Raised on a farm near Colman, SD, Billy attended public schools in Colman, Chester, and Dell Rapids. In Sioux Falls, he worked at Sioux Vocational Services and later Shenanigans. In 1999, he moved to Brookings, living at Advance and working for Larson, K-Mart, and later Qdoba for several years. Billy took great pride in his work.
He loved sports, including softball, basketball, and bowling. He challenged many with arm wrestling and was a fierce competitor in the Special Olympics, earning enough medals to cover his bedroom walls.
Billy had a passion for movies (especially the Karate Kid). He loved Power Rangers, Star Wars, Marvel movies, and so many more. His movie collection rivaled that of Netflix.
Anybody who met Billy knows that his smile and laughter could light up a room. He was a true source of joy for his family, his friends, his co-workers, and those who served him. He will be dearly missed.
Billy is survived by his parents, Chuck and Jackie Richter, Sioux Falls; 8 siblings: Chuck Jr. (Christine) Richter, Kenmore, WA; Laura Richter, St. Paul, MN; Ginger (Chad) Rasmussen, Rock Rapids, IA; Betsy Richter, Osceola, IA; Julie (Derek) Ganz, Minneapolis, MN; Zeke (Anita Kruse) Richter, Brookings; Nancy (Jake Enget) Richter, Minneapolis, MN; Alex (Tracy) Richter, Sioux Falls; 2 step-sisters: Yvonne Jones, Sioux Falls; Annette (Paul) Hansen, Brookings; 1 step-brother: Orlin (Jenny) Jones, Sioux Falls; 2 brothers-in-law: Tom Guetzloff, Arizona; Kevin Sabers, Salem and numerous nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his Mother, Bernadette; sister, Christine Guetzloff; step-sister, Shelly Sabers and his grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, September 6, 2021 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman with burial in the Catholic cemetery. Visitation on Sunday from 3:00-5:00 pm at the church with a 5:00 pm scripture service.
