Mildred C. Farmer of St. Matthews passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022 surrounded by her family. Millie, as she was known, was 88.
Born in Louisville to Ida and Ellis Carter, Millie attended Greathouse Elementary and then Atherton High School, where she was a member of the last graduating class of girls in 1951. She was the keeper of alumni databases for many years. She went on to U of L, where she was an officer at her Kappa Delta sorority chapter, a member of the Mortarboard Honor Society, and graduated with a BS in Medical Technology.
In 1952 while at U of L, she met her future husband Raymond when Millie led an orientation tour of incoming freshmen football players. That tour led to a marriage of 66 years. The two married in 1956 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church where they have been members of the Questors Sunday School class for 55 years, with Millie serving as Treasurer for over 25 years.
Millie is survived by husband, Raymond; Sons David (Jill Naiser) of Lousiville, and Ray of Mesa, AZ; Grandchildren Sarah (Mitch) Hultman of Murray, Rebecca (Chad) Waits of Louisville, and their mother Kathy Farmer, Jerry Farmer of Denver, CO and his mother Niki Stamos; Great grandchildren Thea and Nora Hultman, and Oakley and Ellis Waits.
Millie enjoyed family, traveling, birding, and nature photography. She volunteered at the Kentucky Center for the Arts for 32 years, the last 12 working in the open captioning program. Millie and her husband were extensive travelers, touring all 50 states, several Caribbean and European countries, Churchill Manitoba Canada to see the polar bears, and her absolute favorite, the Galápagos Islands.
She will be laid to rest at Cave Hill Cemetery where she will join over 15 of her ancestors. Her headstone was designed by her husband Raymond, and the location was chosen so that people can wave as they pass by.
The family would like to thank all of the St. Matthews church members and friends for all the thoughts, prayers, and meals during her recent medical events.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Raptor Rehab of Kentucky and Waterfront Botanical Gardens
