Mary Louise Woodworth, 97, of Robinson, IL, passed away on July 17, 2022, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing. She was born on November 13, 1924, in Ramona, OK, the daughter of William Kenneth Marbry & Bertha Elizabeth (Hill) Marbry, both of whom preceded her in death. She married James Spencer Woodworth, Jr. on August 25, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son, J. S. "Jay" Woodworth, III; her daughter-in-law, Janet Varner; her brothers, Ira Lawrence Marbry, Howard W. Marbry, and Robert H. Marbry; and her sister, Dorothy O. Bashears.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Kenneth Marbry & Carolyn Woodworth (Sarasota, FL); her daughter & significant other, Lucinda Lee Woodworth & Robert Tucker (Olney, IL); her daughter-in-law, Diana Woodworth (Robinson, IL); her grandchildren, James S. "Jace" Woodworth IV (FL), Kristin R. Avery & Paul Alger (Oblong, IL), Kelly Jo & Joseph Spitznagel (Fort Wayne, IN), Elizabeth A. & Brian Keach (Flora, IL), Kyle M. & Christy Woodworth (Kingwood, TX), C.R. & Nicole Simpson (Evansville, IN), and Cassi Weber (Indianapolis, IN); her great-grandchildren, Clayton James Avery (Oblong, IL), Laine Keach, Briley Keach, and Logan Keach (all of Flora, IL), Heidi Spitznagel and Summer Spitznagel (both of Fort Wayne, IN), James Spencer Woodworth V (Robinson, IL), Tate Woodworth and Cora Jane Woodworth (both of Kingwood, TX), Cole Simpson and Darby Simpson (both of Evansville, IN), Garrett Weber (Indianapolis, IN), and Korbin Alger and Collin Alger (both of Oblong, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up in Robinson and was a 1942 graduate of Robinson High School. Though she worked a couple other jobs (for Acme Chevrolet during WWII and the bookstore at Indiana University while Jim was at school), most of her career was spent as an agent at the J. Spencer Woodworth Insurance Agency. Through the good work she did here, Mary left an indelible mark on her beloved community. Her love of Crawford County was also evident in the numerous local organizations she immersed herself in, including the Robinson First Presbyterian Church, the Crawford Memorial Foundation Board, the Robinson Library Board (on which she served for 20 years), and the Committee for Nuttall Middle School (serving as the committee's chair). Her years of community involvement led her to receive the Distinguished Citizen's Award, the Robinson Chamber of Commerce's most prestigious award and one that was, by all accounts, well-earned.
A certified private pilot, much of her free time was spent enraptured in the freedom of the open sky. Mary was known to go just as fast back on solid ground, as she had a penchant for fast cars! (It could be said that her sons' passion for racing was inherited from their mother.) A lover of travel, she enjoyed journeying to international destinations such as Paris and Calgary and also visited her son Ken in Houston and Florida on numerous occasions. Back home, she could often be found rooting for her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. She was also quite the Chicago Bears fan, to the point that she was in attendance to watch the "Monsters of Midway" win it all in Super Bowl XX!
Though she inherited the "Marbry temper" that came out from time to time, Mary's 97 years with us were predominately marked by joy and humor. In fact, she had a bright, fun way of looking at life, making the most of the time she had. She loved her family with reckless abandon and touched more people than she could ever know. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her, stirring within us until, by the grace of God, we meet again!
A time of visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson.
