Lawrence Young Obituary

Lawrence Allen Young passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Allen was born to Marion Lawrence and Carol Roberts Young in Chester, South Carolina, on March 9, 1942, and has spent the last 80 years bringing smiles to those around him and making everywhere he's been a little more beautiful than before.
He served in the Air Force from 1962 until 1966, where he rose to the rank of E-4 Senior Crew Chief on the first C-141 at Travis Air Force Base, his beloved Starlifter, the Golden Bear. He met and married Kathy in California, and they lived in North Carolina for many years, enjoying Lake Norman and raising their children. Later becoming an avid hunter and champion lawnmower, Allen circled the earth approximately 76 times on his faithful grass-cutting steed. This record was matched by similar laps at the helm of a boat, pulling screaming children and grandchildren behind on skis and in tubes. Allen was the handiest of handymen and had an exceptional talent and love for all cars (except Hondas). Although he wasn't one to frequently volunteer his opinion, he had a great chortling laugh ready to share at any moment. Allen couldn't help but fix up any broken engine, outdated appliance, or bad mood he came across.
Proceeded in death by his parents and sister Amelia Mayes, Allen is survived by his wife Kathy and their children, Michael (Cindy) Young and Shairee (Kirk) Bass, and grandchildren Emily, Dallin, Kate, and Breanna. He is also survived by his sisters, Grace Williford and Mary Garner.

His body will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Memorial Park-Garden of Valor, 1501 Bethel Valley Rd, Oak Ridge, TN, on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 9:00 am, with full military honors-but his spirit is probably strolling the gardens of Heaven, observing the irrigation.
