Judy Vetrano, 88, passed away at her daughter Beth's home on January 10, 2025. She was born March 14, 1936 in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania to the late Margaret and George Gavigan, and she grew up in the area.
Judy was predeceased by her second husband Vincent P. Vetrano, by her first husband Ronald Calvey, by her son Mark Calvey, and by her brother David (Davey) Gavigan.
She is survived by her children: Beth (Paul) Koerts, Jeffry (Casey) Calvey, Michael Vetrano, Doug Calvey (Donna Morris), Greg (Lynne) Calvey, Jeannine (John) Smith, and Maria Vetrano (Helen Privett); by her grandchildren: Sylea, Rychelle, George (Andrea), Shannon (Dean), Brian, Mark (Katlyn), Alex (Becca), Vince, Logan (Kirsta), Tyler (Mindy), Kevin, Stella, Nicholas, Mary (Neil), Larry Joe, and Katie (Cass); and by her great-grandchildren: Tyrell, Marquis, Liam, and Cayden.
Judy was also beloved by a close group of friends from Church of the Holy Family (Endwell, NY), from Mercy House-of which she was a founding committee member and dedicated team member, and from the Binghamton Country Club.
Judy was known to family and friends as a "hostess with the mostest," a woman who could pull together a dinner party for eight with grace and good cheer. Christmas was always a special time for Judy. After she married Vince, she fully embraced the feast of the seven fishes on Christmas Eve and holiday cannoli-making and distribution, an annual event involving sourcing ricotta from New York City and preparing hundreds of homemade cannoli shells. It was a labor of love that would bring Vince and Judy to family and friends, delivering cannoli like two little Red Riding Hoods throughout the Christmas season.
She was also an exceptional athlete. She was an avid skier and tennis player into her fourth decade, and a competitive golfer into her eighth.
Judy was resilient, engaging, wickedly funny, and always fashionable. She was someone who could make Marth Stewart jealous.
Judy's family and friends will miss her warm and loving heart. Her spirit will remain with us.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am, Friday, January 17 at Church Of The Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at church Friday, January 17 from 9:30 am, until Mass time at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier or to Guthrie Hospice Vestal.
