Our loving and beautiful mother, Jane Marie Alden, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 12, 2024 after a brief illness.
Jane was born on March 5, 1933 to Leo and Mary (Albert) Morrissette. Sadly her birth mother died when Jane was only 18 months old. A loss our mother mourned her entire life.
Jane married Dale G. Alden in October 1951 and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years together. Their union was blessed with 8 children, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Jane was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and devout in her Catholic faith. She regularly attended St. Peter Catholic Church, Chesaning. In addition, she was a member of the League of Catholic Women, and also enjoyed working at the Parish's funeral dinners.
Jane enjoyed her employment at Line Street Elementary as their building's secretary for 25 years. She also enjoyed being part of the Historical Museum and River Rapids District Library. Jane enjoyed spending time with her family at her cottage up north. She had a passion for reading. In addition, Jane was a member of the 'coffee friends' at McDonalds or Showboat Restaurant most mornings. The blessings of this group and the wonderful staff at both locations brought bounds of laughter and joy to her.
Jane is survived by her children, Thomas (Janice) Alden, of Au Gres; Douglas (Debra) Alden, of Washington; Karen (Dennis) Quaderer, of Chesaning; Mary (Ted) Beldyga, of Chesaning; Ronald (Cheryl) Alden, of Roscommon; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Alden O'Keefe, of Idaho. Jane is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces, and nephews.
Those who have preceded Jane are: Husband, Dale, son Robert, infant children Linda and Richard, and infant grandchildren, Benjamin and Gloriana Alden. Parents Leo and Mary Albert Morrissette, Step-mother Mary (Hollenback) Morrissette, brothers Albert and Robert, sisters, Helen Roy Maves, Frances Klein Gasper, Leona Blackmer, Lucille Jordan, Susanne Morrissette and her special uncle and aunt, Ed and Fronia Birchmeier.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 2:00pm till 7:00pm, with a rosary service at 7:00pm at McGeehan Funeral Home - Martin Chapel. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 11:30am at St. Peter Catholic Parish in Chesaning. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Charitable donations may be made to St. Peter Parish or The Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor.
Faith was an anchor for our mother followed by the love of her family. Her beautiful smile, her grace, and kindness towards others were special qualities. Mom saw the beauty of the journey and believed in the power of simply being kind. Hallelujah, she is home.
