Gregory Edward Johnson of Leland, NC, passed away suddenly on May 4 while vacationing abroad. He was 67. Born in Paterson, Greg grew up in Clifton and raised his family in Wayne before moving to North Carolina in 2020 with his wife, Karen, to escape NJ's cold winters. He owned a computer sales and service company before retiring a number of years ago. An avid car enthusiast, Greg enjoyed restoring several classic muscle cars over the years, and could name the make, model and year of a vehicle with hardly a glance. He was also a lifelong boater, and enjoyed traveling abroad as well as trying to duplicate his mom's favorite recipes. Above all, however, Greg was a family man in the truest sense of the word. He was a devoted son and son-in-law, a loving husband, a cherished father, beloved Poppy and a kind, caring friend to those who knew him. He loved his grandchildren beyond measure, and looked forward to frequent FaceTime visits when he wasn't able to be with them in NJ.
Greg was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Eleanor Johnson, and leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Karen (Grib); son Christopher and his wife, Melissa, of Oakland; daughter Melissa Thomson and her husband, Michael, of Jefferson Township, and four young grandchildren: Aydan, Adrianna, McKenna and Miles. He will be sorely missed by his extended family, friends and neighbors.
Cremation was arranged by the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Gregory's life at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 810 Broad Street, Clifton, NJ.
