Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Giovanni was the son of Rodolfo and Sonia Gonzalez-Rubio. After immigrating to the United States, Giovanni settled in Jersey City, New Jersey. He lived in Jersey City until he met and married the love of his life, Shannon. They moved to Aberdeen where they raised their family. Giovanni worked for DCI Metro, Inc. in East Rutherford for 23 years, where he was a project manager for commercial door and hardware distribution. A devoted husband and father, he was a big fan of hockey and especially watching his sons play. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Giovanni is survived by his wife of 18 years, Shannon Ricker, his sons, Ian and James Gonzalez-Rubio, his mother, Sonia Gonzalez-Rubio, Boise, ID, his brother, Rudy Gonzalez-Rubio, Atlanta, GA, sisters, Gloria Perez, Jersey City, NJ and Yasmine Gonzalez-Rubio, Boise, ID, his mother-in-law, Jill Owens, 11 nephews and nieces, and his beloved dog, Cody.
Family and friends are invited to gather at a memorial celebrating Giovanni's life between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Waitt Funeral Home, 501 Rt 79 Morganville, NJ.
In lieu of flowers Giovanni's family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the ASPCA at: :https://monmouthcountyspca.org/support/donate/.

When I look back I will see the joy. The small moments of time we were able to share as a family. Gio might have called me "the PITAS" but he still earned the title brother, not through marriage, but through his actions. I thank Gio for giving Shannon the gift of her babies and for becoming the best father they could have ever asked for. Our family was truly blessed for Giovanni to have been a part of it.

He was my son in law, we were friends and most importantly we were family. I will miss him very much but be assured you live on in Ian and James and all the beautiful memories we have of you.
Shannon and Giovanni gave me two wonderful grandson's and for that I am forever great full. They are becoming young men that make us proud and you were apart of them being who they are today.
I know you will watch over us all. God Loves you and we do too. You will be missed and never forgotten. Nana Jill
