David Rigney Obituary

David Lynn Rigney Sr. left this earth November 22, 2021, one day before his 74th birthday, doing what he loved. Playing the game of Golf.
Mr. Rigney leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Carolyn Sue Porter Rigney of Acworth, Georgia. Their marriage is a testament of love, caring and a deep understanding of one another. He is survived by his brother, Marvin Rigney of Georgia. Mr. Rigney loved his children, David L. Rigney jr. (Margie) of Georgetown, Kentucky; Ginger Rigney Stafford (Buddy) of Cartersville, Georgia and Christopher Bradley Rigney (Caryn) of Emerson, Georgia and Danielle Rawlins. As well as a host of grandchildren; Rebecca, Kimberly, Krystal, Caroline, Christopher, Zackery, Nicholas, Haven, Taylor, James, Luis, Brianna, Gloria, Victoria, William, Benjamin and Lydia. He had the blessing of close cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family, all of whom will miss him greatly.
Mr. Rigney was born in Lexington, Kentucky and was a graduate of Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky and after moving to Acworth, Georgia, worked for the United States Postal Service from 1988 and retired in 2010. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Euharlee #457.
Mr. Rigney treasured his time with his wife Carolyn and the many trips they took over the years. They spent many hours fishing the local waters of Georgia and enjoying the outdoors. He adored his grandchildren which he always spent as much time with as he could, but not as often as he wanted. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
He truly enjoyed the game of Golf, it was always a big part of his life. As a child, he would sneak onto a local golf course not far from his home in Kentucky and as he got older, he would play nearly daily with his dear friends in Acworth, Ga. Regardless of weather, he was dedicated to the sport.
Mr. Rigney also loved cars and enjoyed being a mechanic. He said that when he was a child, watching his cousin work on cars, he figured out that was all he ever wanted to do. He has two sons, one who is a mechanic as well, and one who works for Toyota to carry on his passion for cars and a daughter to carry on his love of people. While many would say he was a master of many trades, he was most proud of being a family man. He loved Family. Those that were living and those that had gone on long before him. Mr. Rigney was an avid historian and passed his enthusiasm for American and World History on to his children and grandchildren. He took verbal history and stories shared around campfires of his youth very seriously and he felt it was his mission to share those stories so that they would carry on a legacy of his family and their lives. Mr. Rigney was not one to stay in one place too long.
He was always on the go. Impromptu visits and 4 or 6 hour drives just to say hello, were not uncommon. He lived a deliberate and spontaneous life, all at the same time. He never met a stranger. Even in a crowded room of people he had never met, he would find common ground and in so, gain a friend. It is impossible to sum up a man's life, in just a few paragraphs, but like the stories he told, his life story will continue to be shared around campfires and dinner tables through his family for years to come.
