Barbara F. Lisser

Barbara F. Lisser (nee Fleishman) passed on March 18, 2022, at the age of seventy. Barb, a fighter, was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 4, 1952. As an infant, she overcame Polio. Though she adored children, (especially her niece, Nikki Selden), she was unable to bear a child of her own. For over thirteen years, she battled through five bouts of cancer. For almost a decade, Barb actively participated in oncology clinical trials at Penn Medicine, led by her esteemed oncologist, Dr. Janos L. Tanyi, steadfastly working on a treatment to fight ovarian cancer. But, once dementia entered the ring in 2016, it proved to be a detestable enemy that remains undefeated.

A Cherry Hill, NJ resident, in 1987, she wed her husband, Abraham Lisser, who remained by her side until her final breath. Their marriage was for over thirty-five years. But, from their first date in 1986, each immediately knew that the other was "the one", and they would be in love eternally.

A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Cowboys, General Hospital, movies, music, live entertainment, and sweets, Barb was the eldest of two siblings (Lynda Stein) born to Sidney Fleishman and Doris Fleishman (nee Weinstock). Raised in the Feltonville neighborhood of Philadelphia, Barb was a graduate of Olney High School. She enjoyed a career, spanning two decades, at the Social Security Administration in Philadelphia, which afforded her many wonderful long-time friends. Shortly thereafter, for 22 years, Barb worked part-time as a receptionist at Haircut One-Hundred, in Voorhees, NJ, where she enjoyed interacting with clients, colleagues/friends alike.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Sid and Dar, who she cherished, was passionately devoted to, and regularly visited, until each of their final days. Along with her beloved husband, Abe, she is survived by her treasured extended family, two stepsons, and many loved close friends, including Robin Pilch who is revered.

Relatives and friends are invited Wednesday, March 23, 2022 beginning 11:30 am to PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Inc. 2001 Berlin Road, Cherry Hill, NJ where funeral services will begin promptly at 12:00 noon. The service will also be live streamed on our website. Entombment will follow at Montefiore Cemetery in Jenkintown, PA.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center Fund, https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MED&fund=603702.

It is with a heavy heart that I have just learned of Barbara's passing. We first met, IIRC, at 401 North Broad shortly before our office's move to 3rd and Spring Garden. From conversations, we learned that Barbara had grown up only a couple of blocks from my wife and that she had gone to school with one of my wife's co-workers. Barbara always had a cheerful, friendly smile and a kind word for everyone and the world was a brighter place for her presence. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Barbara.

Barb was beautiful, sweet, quick witted and loved to laugh. We had movie nights on Mondays with her sister in law Marsha and other dear friends where we did dinner and a movie. It was always a good time. She will be missed.
