Jeffery Duroy Obituary

Jeffery Robert Duroy
November 9, 1959 - June 15, 2022
Sonora, California - Jeff DuRoy was born November 9, 1959 in Modesto, CA to Robert and Mary Ann DuRoy. Jeff was raised in Modesto, and graduated from Grace M. Davis High School, class of 1978.
Jeff was athletic and enjoyed playing all sports, excelling in baseball in the position of catcher. He began playing Little League as a young boy and continued all his life including playing for the MID City League.
His first job was a Modesto Bee paper route which he prided himself with never being late with his deliveries, which were all completed on his "best" bicycle.
Jeff enjoyed a career spanning 37 years at the Modesto Irrigation District (MID). He made many lifelong friends and created many great memories. For Jeff, working at MID was more than a job, and anyone who had the pleasure of working with him was able to vouch for this by his upbeat, positive, and enthusiastic spirit that he brought with him to work everyday. Many of his co-workers had him on speed dial if they ever needed help routing their day or finding a particular address around town; as he was truly a walking GPS. At the time of his retirement he had the most longevity of all currently employed at the MID. He retired from his position in the meter department at MID and handed the baton to his daughter Amy who now holds that same position. We now have the third generation of DuRoy's working at the MID meter department; Jeff's father, Robert DuRoy, Jeff, and currently his daughter Amy.
Jeff married Julie Corgiat on September 6, 1981. They shared one child together, their daughter Amy, who is, as we all know, his pride and joy.
Jeff met Jan Cordoni in June 2000 while walking in a 24-hour Cancer walk at Johansen High School Track. They married in Pinecrest, CA on October 1, 2011. Together Jeff and Jan loved to travel; visiting Jan's family in Boston several times, Hawaii, and Italy (which was a very big deal as Jeff hated to fly). They also enjoyed spending their time in the great outdoors which led them to move onto 2.5 acres in Sonora this past year. Jeff spent most of his retirement cooking, gardening, fishing, and training his retirement buddy, his new dog, Ollie Bear. His breakfast potatoes are going to be missed.
Jeff's other pride and joy was his granddaughter, Kaylee who he delivered on August 25, 2010 in his own home. After going through this experience, Jeff would commonly refer to himself as "Doctor DuRoy" with a proud smile.
Jeff was most happy when he was outside camping, hiking, fishing. If you looked up "outdoorsman" in the dictionary you would find a picture of Jeff. He also loved coaching soccer. He devoted many years of his life to coaching his daughter and grand-daughter, along with countless other kids; encouraging them to participate and strive for greatness.
Jeff never knew a stranger. When Jeff met Jan's family he made them his own by the end of their first visit. He was always the life of the party, and many times he would put on his Indian headwear, grab his drum and dance around to prove it!
We are comforted to know that he is at peace, wrapped in the arms of his mother in heaven.
Jeff leaves behind his wife Jan, daughter Amy DuRoy Hollands (Cory), his adorable granddaughter Kaylee DuRoy Hollands; Sisters, Terrie Gamboa, Denise Duroy-Harwell(Terry). Step-daughters Angela Cordoni, Krista Lee (Jon) grandsons; Calvin and Leo Lee. Aunt Carol Sue Turner, cousins, Kellie May, Jill Julio (Frank) Step-siblings William Birt (Dawna), Deb Moser (Ray), Randy Smith (Maggie). Uncle Richard DuRoy (Dorthea), Cousins Mark DuRoy (Andrea) and Lori Norcutt (Anders), Cousins Greg Suko(Johnna), Pam Defenbach(Byron), Cinda Ring. And many great friends, who are the family you choose along the way.
A Memorial Mass for Jeff will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 9:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (1813 Oakdale Rd, Modesto, CA). This will be followed by a Celebration of Life Lunch at 11:00am at Papapolloni's Bistro (2501 McHenry Ave Modesto, CA).
Remembrances to The Sierra Club (2101 Webster St, Suite 1300 Oakland, CA).

So sad he's gone, but now he can be enjoyed in Heaven. Met him in 1970 and we talked sports.

Jeff, you will be greatly missed! You were such a great uncle to Austin, he'd get so excited when you'd pull up in your MID truck often, Uncle Jeff is here! We love you Jeff & tho time has passed since we've seen you, the stamp you made on your nephews heart will never will be forgotten! Seeing you in Pinecrest will be a cherished memory. Thank you for your kindness & leaving us all knowing such a great man has touched our lives... Your smile
Your hugs. Your voice. Your positivity. Your memory will never leave us. Watch down on us from the sky above for we will think of your free happy spirit. (I don't like flying either) Your loss is such a hard thing to accept, but knowing you have peace now makes its easy to embrace. Love you always!
