Sara Buckner Obituary

With broken hearts we are announcing that Sara Barbara Buckner passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2025 at the age of 95.

"Sarabob" is what family and friends called her, was born in Calhoun, Ga on August 4th, 1929. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Billy Jack Buckner and daughter, Barbara. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Leigh (Gene) Trull and Hope (Tim) Arnott, 3 grandchildren, Emmie (Lucas) Cass, Seth Trull (Isabel) and Chase Brookshire - 2 great grandchildren, Charleigh Jo Cass and Jax Luca Trull.

She met Bill Buckner at Dalton High School, both graduated in 1946 and married that same year. He went into the Air Force and she moved to Chattanooga, TN to live with family. While there, she attended The McKenzie school and graduated in 1948 with an Associate's degree in Secretarial/Bookkeeping.

They found themselves in Marietta in the early 1950's when he got a job at Lockheed Martin and She got a bookkeeping job for Sauls Department Store on the Marietta Square. She worked there until she retired 25 years later.

In 1979, she unexpectedly lost her husband and became a widow at the young age of 45. After his death, she made the commitment to keep his flower shop opened that they had purchased years earlier in Dalton. For 10 years she made the weekly commute working hard, but eventually did end up selling it .

About this time, Milton Saul had started his new company, World Import and wanted to know if she was interested in coming back to work. She took the opportunity and worked another 10 years before retiring for the 3rd and final time.

Sarabob lived a dedicated Christian life and her faith was incredibly strong. She was a proud and active member of Roswell Street Baptist Church. She loved to read and her favorite book was the Bible. Her love for Jesus is what kept her going all those years.

I have many fond memories of Sarabob from living across the street from her for many years. We had a small neighborhood where everyone looked after each other. She was always smiling, helpful and loved people. She had a boxer that would run around her fence whenever I walked by. We both got a lot of exercise. I especially remember Hope as she, my son and the neighborhood kids spent many hours swimming in my parents' pool. My heart goes out to the family at this time and as you honor a life well-lived.
