Diane S. Langone (Rizzo) passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, in Springfield, MA, at the age of 79. Diane is predeceased by her parents, Russell and Santa Rizzo (Micalizzi), and her brothers, Joseph Rizzo and Thomas Rizzo, all from Rochester, NY. She leaves behind her husband, James A. Langone; her sons, James A. Langone of Longmeadow, MA, and Michael J. Langone of Springfield, MA; and her sister, Janet Conway (Rizzo) of Springfield, MA. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Julia Rose Langone of Longmeadow, and Michael and Daniel Langone of Springfield, as well as her daughters-in-law Allison Langone of Longmeadow and Shannon Langone of Springfield.Born in Rochester, NY, Diane was a strong, smart, and remarkable woman. She earned a bachelor of science degree in medical technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and went on to work as a medical technologist at Princeton Hospital and a scientist/research tech at Carter-Wallace, a pharmaceutical company in Princeton, NJ. She was an active laboratory professional and member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She married James A. Langone in 1965 and they moved to Springfield in 1971, where Diane worked at Baystate Medical Center as a lab technician. She also was an active volunteer and member of the Springfield Rotary Club and was the recipient of the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. After switching careers, Diane became the owner and chief floral designer at the Gilded Lily flower shop in Springfield, which she operated for 15 years. After selling the flower shop, she devoted her time to her grandchildren and as a volunteer at Baystate Medical Center.Diane loved British television mysteries and period shows, Harry Potter, crosswords, cooking amazing meals for friends and family (her chicken cutlets are legendary), and throwing elaborate Halloween and holiday parties. She loved her family above all else, and especially adored (and spoiled) her grandchildren. A celebration of Diane's life and love will take place at a later date. I am so saddened by Diane´s passing. She was like a sister to me for over 40 years. We enjoyed many good times, and helped each other through difficult ones. We had a standing "date" on Wednesday evenings for many years for a few hours of girl talk. The last time we spoke, she seemed so hopeful and upbeat. She was so thankful for the extra time spent with her family. Diane was a kind, generous and loving woman and I will miss her.
