Roy BIRKETT Obituary

Roy Birkett, 83, of Gabriola Island passed away surrounded by his loving wife and children. Roy was born in Hucknall, Nottingham England and immigrated to Canada at age 5. He lived a colorful life before settling down on Gabriola Island with his wife Roberta where he became a loving father and friend to many including lifelong friends Don, Tim, George and Frank. He was a dedicated softball coach for T & T Texaco for many years, loved star gazing, flight simulators and was an avid chess player. He impressed many by memorizing lengthy poems and reciting on command including The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and The Cremation of Sam McGee. Roy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Roberta as well as his children Roy Jr Birkett, Julie (Chris) Hart, Cole (Patrick) Birkett, Carly (Carson) Birkett and eight grandchildren as well as children Richard Matthison, Michael Birkett, Tom Morris and Doug McCartney. He loved all his family dearly and cherished those relationships throughout his life.
