Lester Merritt Morris, 85, of El Centro, Ca passed away on July 7, 2022. He was born April 12, 1937 in Pigeon Creek, Alabama, the son of Lester and Irene (Daniels) Morris. The family relocated to El Centro, Ca in July 1937.
Lester attended elementary, high school and Imperial Valley College in El Centro, Ca. He excelled in sports playing both basketball and football for Central Union High School and continuing his football career at Imperial Valley College. Following his education, Lester went on to work 9 years for Imperial Stores and 27 years for the City of El Centro.
On March 25, 1961 Lester married Bertha Marie Logan in El Centro, Ca. To this union a blended family was formed: sons, Geoffrey Ray and Vince Thames; daughter, Nichelle Renee.
Lester was a loyal member of the El Centro Senior Club and La Familia Loco. He loved family gatherings but the occasions he really enjoyed were Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those were a must for him. He always had plenty of food for all to share.
Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Bertha Morris; parents, Lester and Irene Morris; brothers, Roland and Freddie Morris; sisters, Odessa Mae Berryman and Sally Odell Fuller. He is survived by his children, Vince Thames of San Jose, Ca, Geoffrey Ray (Jackie) Morris of Los Angeles, Ca, Nichelle Renee (William Craig) Burnett of Moreno Valley, Ca; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Viewing will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro, Ca. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 590 West Orange Avenue, in El Centro, Ca. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
