Derrill Hall Obituary

Kuna - Mike, 99, passed away Monday, Nov 7, 2023.

He was born Sept 19, 1924 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Stanley Stephen Hall and Bessie Hazel Campbell Hall.

When Mike was seven he developed a bone infection in his leg. It was a tough infection and he was in the hospital for eight weeks (it was 1931-they finally used magots to eat the infection out). During that long hospital stay his doctor started calling him Mike (don't know why). The name stuck.

In 1937, the family headed to Oregon to find work. They stopped near Nampa to work because they were short on cash and never left.

For many years Mike farmed with his dad and brother in the Melba/Kuna/Bowmont/Nampa area, eventually buying 160 acres of his own. During these years he also hired out to do combining and custom windrowing for other farmers, working 2-3 jobs at a time. He later worked at Amalgamated Sugar.

He married Mary Helen Stigile in 1950. They raised four boys in a 1000 sq ft basement house outside Nampa. Mike and Helen were dedicated supporters of their sons' wrestling, football and rodeoing. He lost Helen to cancer in 1995 after 45 years of marriage.

He later got reacquainted with Virginia Harrold McClintick, a grade school classmate.They married in 2004. Ginnie passed in 2012. Mike moved to Kuna in 2004 and lived there until he moved to assisted living in 2023.

Fishing, hunting, horse racing, a moose hunting pack trip with his boys, gardening, motor homing, bi-annual Hall family reunions, making canes...and the man could cut a rug. A life well lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, an infant son Derrill Dean, his wife Virginia, his sister Marie Moore, an infant brother Harris Hall, brother Donald W. Hall, and sister Ida Mae (Pat) Toney.

He is survived by his sons William "Bill" Hall, Monte Hall, (Derrill) Lynn Hall (Cindy), and Brent Hall (Diane); grandchildren Vanessa Hall (Matt), Rose Nelson (Doug), Lacie Adams (Clint), Shawn Hall, Amanda Robertson, Samuel Hall, and McKenna Luke (Chris). He also leaves 12 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Ruby Duncan.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 11 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Kuna Senior Center, 229 N. Avenue B.
