Anne Lasater Obituary

Anne Thomas Lasater
10/07/1938 - 07/06/2025
Anne Thomas Lasater, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025 in Richmond, TX. Born in Houston to Texas Congresswoman Lera Millard Thomas and Congressman Albert Langston Thomas. Anne grew up in Washington, DC, but had deep Texas roots, spent summers in Nacogdoches and Camp Waldemar in Hunt and considered Houston her second home. She attended National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, where she was the 1955 Cherry Blossom Princess for the Texas State Society. Upon graduation, Anne attended Sweet Briar College for two years then completed her college education at the University of Texas in Austin, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and an Allegro debutante in Houston.

Anne and her husband of 57 years, Edward Albert Lasater (1936-2018), shared a life of adventure, love, laughs and world travel. They married in Washington, DC, completed Ed's US Army commitment in Panama, lived in Falfurrias, Brazil, Corpus Christi and settled in Houston to raise their family. Through the years, Anne would have been seen hauling four kids to four schools/sports in the station-wagon, modeling at Houston's most iconic stores and runway shows, volunteering with Houston Junior League, weeding at Bayou Bend for the River Oaks Garden Club, playing tennis at the Forest Club, doing her famous "no splash" swimming at the Bayou Club, aerobicizing at St. John's or the Y or on the dance floor at many parties! Anne and Ed had a wonderful circle of life-long friends that were always doing fun things, celebrating, traveling and supporting one another through life. Anne, a staunch Episcopalian, was an attending member of St. James in Corpus Christi and St. John the Divine, Christ Church Cathedral, and St. Martin's in Houston.

Anne was also preceded in death by her son, Edward Albert Lasater, Jr, her grandsons, Hamilton Lasater Lee and Wakefield Edward Lasater, her brother James Nelson Thomas, her sister Lera Thomas, her mother and father in-law Carolyn and Garland M. Lasater, Sr and sister in-law Peggy Lasater Clark and Peggy's husband Bill Clark.

She is survived by her four loving children: Lauren Lasater Martin (Peyton L. Martin), Lera Lasater Lee (Duncan A. Lee), Carolyn Lasater Hodges, and Albert Thomas Lasater (Tracie P. Lasater). Her brothers-in-law Garland M. Lasater, Jr (Mollie Lupe Lasater) and Ike Kampmann Lasater (Daisy Lasater) and Judith H. Lasater and many precious nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Anne cherished her role as "Grand Anne" to her 12 grandchildren: Margaret Martin James (Davis James), Catherine Lee Martin, Valerie Martin Durham (Jeffery Durham), Duncan A. Lee Jr., Ivy Thomas Lee, Garland Lasater Hodges (Paige Hodges), Thompson Lasater Hodges, Fire Maya Lasater, Jack Peters Lasater, Guy Thomas Lasater and Lyla Carroll Lasater. She was blessed to know and love her great grandchildren: Teagan May Durham and Taylor Thomas Durham.

Her legacy is one of strength, determination, opinions, and devotion to her family. Anne's wit, insight and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family will bury her ashes alongside her husband in Falfurrias, Texas during the La Mota Association's family annual gathering during Thanksgiving week.

Special sincere gratitude to Bill Harris, Anne's friend, who included, entertained and escorted Anne while living at The Forum at Memorial Woods in Houston and the caring staff at the Legacy at Long Meadow in Richmond, Texas and the Accredited Hospice Care - Houston Texas.

Memorial Service planned for Oct.7, 2025, 2pm, St. Martin's Episcopal Church, Houston, TX.

Lauren and Carolyn and Lera and Albert,
I will always remember our times in Falfurrias with you all. Your mom was the epitome of elegance. Her relationship with Ed was so funny and precious. Especially their memories of your family´s time in Brazil. What an adventurous spirit she had and was so kind to me, always. Mother (who turned 90 last week) joins me in sending you all hugs. She loved them very much, as you well know. The times are changing and the torch passed to a new generation. Hope we can keep in touch. Love, Cecilia
