James Howard McKenrick, Sr.
November 13, 1941 - July 21, 2022
Blythewood, South Carolina - James Howard McKenrick Sr., 80, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease.
Jim was born on November 13th, 1941, to his parents Howard James McKenrick and Martha Sara McKenrick in Clearfield Pennsylvania. A graduate from Clearfield High School, Jim attended Williamsport Technical College, earning a degree in engineering.
Starting a career working with his father at Phillipsburg Refrigeration in Phillipsburg, PA, he then went to work for Pure Carbon Company in St. Mary's, PA. Jim relocated his family to Atlanta in 1972 and continued working with Pure Carbon Company. Moving to Rock Hill, SC in 1978, he started his own company McKenrick Sales, Inc. (M.S.I.), where he and his wife Sylvia Hooven McKenrick enjoyed raising their boys and watching their grandchildren grow into adulthood.
Jim and Sylvia met in Clearfield, PA, and were married on December 31st, 1963. Together they spent the next 58 years of marriage raising their two boys, James Howard McKenrick jr. (Rick Sanchez) of Charleston, SC, and Richard Allen McKenrick (Theresa Jackson) of Blythewood, SC, three grandchildren, Samuel Evan McKenrick (Ashley Hargett) of Rock Hill, SC, Sarah Grace McKenrick (Stephen Magyar) of Blythewood, SC and Miranda Sanchez of Charleston, SC; as well as one great grandchild Ali White.
In 2012 Jim changed career paths and became a safety engineer contractor, working for UIG, Inc., where he worked until March 2022. Jim considered his UIG co-workers and contractors as part of his family.
Jim was passionate about his faith and enjoyed serving the Lord as a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years and leading numerous mission trips throughout several foreign countries. He was able to enjoy seeing many of his family members serve on the mission field alongside him. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with old friends. He was preceded by his parents, Howard James McKenrick and Martha Sara McKenrick, and one sister Patricia Priest.
A memorial service will be held at the Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road in Rock Hill, SC at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 25. 2022 with visitation to follow at the funeral home.

I will always have fond memories of Jim and his personal approach to everything he did. He always greeted me with a healthy smile and a firm handshake. He always had an honest, caring and attentive approach to his work and he made others better because of that approach.

I will miss Jim!
