Dorothy Burt Obituary

Dorothy Cook Burt, 86, a long-time resident of Corvallis, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Shoreline, Washington after a five-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Dorothy was born in 1939 in Bakersfield, California, to Charles and Zoe Cook. While attending college, she met her future husband, George Burt. They married in 1959 and built a life centered on family, education, service, and community.

Dorothy devoted many years to raising their three sons John, David, and Thomas, while also completing her bachelor's degree from Arizona State University. In 1966, the family moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where George served as a university professor. After her sons were grown, Dorothy worked for several companies, including Oregon Freeze Dry and Boise Cascade.

Following their retirement in 1990, Dorothy and George fulfilled a shared commitment to service by completing two Peace Corps assignments, first in Tunisia and later in Paraguay. When George's health declined, Dorothy cared for him with deep devotion until his passing in 2011.

Dorothy later relocated to Federal Way, Washington, to be closer to family. There she quickly became active in community life, volunteering through her church, the Federal Way Lions Club, the Federal Way Historical Society, and other local organizations. Service to others remained a defining part of her life.

Dorothy is survived by her sons John, David, and Thomas, and nine beloved grandchildren, with whom she cherished spending time.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on February 28, 2026, at Saltwater Unitarian Universalist Church in Des Moines, Washington.
