Alan Irish Obituary

Alan J. Irish

Northampton, MA - Alan J. Irish, 53, of Northampton, MA, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was born in Norwood, MA on June 5, 1970, to Frank and Nadia Irish. Alan grew up in Wayland, MA, and was a graduate of the University of Rochester, obtaining his B.A. in history. He was a member of the Beta Zeta Tau fraternity. He worked in actuarial and corporate recruitment, with much of his career at The Hartford and at CPS, Inc.

Alan had a rare talent of making and maintaining many long standing and deep friendships. He cared immensely about the well-being of the people around him and could always lighten the atmosphere with his comedic sensibility. He was a bon vivant, heartily enjoying meals and trips and watching sports with friends and family. Alan loved playing tennis, golf, and softball, and in recent years took up bicycling in and around Northampton. As a gay man, he was active in The Hartford LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and worked to foster acceptance and inclusion.

He leaves behind his parents, Frank and Nadia Irish, and his sisters Vivian Irish and Sylvia Windhurst, brother-in-law Paul Windhurst, and nieces Jessica Windhurst and Alexandra Dawson. He also leaves behind dozens of dear friends, many of whom were like family to him.

Two organizations that were dear to Alan's heart were PanCAN and the Cancer Connection; in lieu of flowers, donations to these organizations may be made in Alan's memory.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date. DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME of Northampton has been entrusted with his care.
