Mary Smith Obituary

WARREN GLEN, NJ Mary Elizabeth Smith, 91, of Warren Glen, NJ passed away on December 9, 2021. Born on September 30, 1930 in Erwinna, PA, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Mary R. (Kaminski) Herstine. She was a graduate of Frenchtown High School in 1948 and has attended many class reunions. She was a resident of Warren Glen since 1953. She was previously employed by Dural Co. in Flemington, Riegel Paper Co. in Riegelsville and the Smith Dairy Farm with her late husband and family. She enjoyed her family, many friends, the seashore, music, ice skating, shows and traveling. Mary was a member of St. Edwards R.C. Church, the Riegel Ridgers, the Huntington Fire Co. Booster Club, the Milford Seniors, the Stewartsville Grange, the NJ State Grange, the NJ Farm Bureau, the NJ Agricultural Society, NJ Agricultural Museum, NJ Holstein Assoc., and the State Theatre. She was also a member of the Pohatcong Election Board, the Pohatcong Township Agricultural Advisory Board, and a volunteer for the annual Pohatcong Historic House Society tours. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Russell Smith, a former mayor of Pohatcong Township, who passed away on December 20, 1994, as well as her brothers Ernest E. Herstine and Stanley E. Herstine and her sister-in-law Bonnie Herstine. Mary is survived by her daughter Sharon K. Smith, son Russell R. Smith, grandchildren Lauren McGinley and husband Shane, Russell R. Jr. and fiancee Allison Rogers, and Savannah Emsweller and husband Adam, and sisters-in-law Patricia Herstine and Mary J. Smith. She also has many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 10-11am at the Finegan Funeral Home at 924 2nd Avenue in Alpha, NJ, with the funeral service beginning at 11am at the funeral home.
