Nancy Dewey Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth Dewey

1958 ~ 2023

- Nancy Elizabeth Dewey was born August 18, 1958 to Katherine and James Davis. She was the 5th of 6 children and adored by older siblings.

She spent her childhood in Buffalo Rochester New York. She spoke fondly of her neighborhood and all of the friends she met through the years. After graduating high school Nancy worked as a science and laboratory technician. After some pretty significant trials Nancy decided to move closer to her niece Beth and transplanted to Tucson Arizona. There she met the love of her life Alan Joseph Dewey. After meeting her best friend, Nancy decided to become a baptized member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her hair was still wet from the baptismal font when she was married. A year later on March 28th the couple were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona temple. Together they raised 5 wonderful children. (Three they created together and two that came as bonuses with Alan)

While being a full-time stay at home mom for her children's younger years Nancy sewed clothes, grew a giant garden, and spent many hours with her children at the library and reading books.

Nancy went back to college as a mom of three children and worked tirelessly to become a teacher. She eventually went back and received a master's degree in Teacher Curriculum and Education.

Upon the sudden death of her beloved companion Nancy became a single mom with three teenagers at home. Nancy relied on the Lord, worked hard, and got her kids through school. After they were all out of the house Nancy decided it was time to serve more. She became a full-time family history missionary where she helped countless people trace their family lines. She continued her love for teaching by working at Cochise Community College and the University of Arizona teaching beginning math courses. She then pivoted back to elementary school where she taught science and math. She was feeling restless at around age 60 so she decided to move to England to teach abroad. Sadly that adventure was cut short by a Covid-19 pandemic. She moved back to the United States and landed in Utah where two of her children were living at the time.

She continued to teach math and science at Athlos Academy. She remained a shaper of minds until she was diagnosed with breast cancer in December of 2022. She was really refined in the last year of her life spending many days in the hospital and doctor's offices. Though she was weak she kept her humor about her and always found moments to shake her bum bum or make a crazy face. She was a resilient woman of faith who sacrificed all she had for her family.

December 27, 2023 she returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, and her husband. What a beautiful reunion she is having. While we mourn her life, her family rejoices in the happiness she is feeling on the other side.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alan Joseph Dewey, her brother in law Tom Collard, her parents Katherine and James Davis, and countless friends. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Dewey, Daniel (Brittney) Dewey, Ashley (Nathan) Dawes, Allison Dewey, and Larry (Christina) Dewey, and her precious grandbabies Joey, James, Ellie, Declan, and Taryn.
