William Jepsen Obituary

William G. Jepsen, Jr., a respected attorney, longtime resident of Crofton, Maryland, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on August 3. Mr. Jepsen, born in Newton, MA in 1944, first came to the D.C. area as a student at the Catholic University of America, where he excelled in sports and was active in the Sigma Beta Kappa fraternity. Upon graduation in 1968, Mr. Jepsen joined the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) first as a uniform police officer and later as a public information officer. A voracious learner, Mr. Jepsen went on to earn a master's degree at George Washington University and law degree from the University of Baltimore. After admission to the bar, he served as assistant general counsel to the MPD, and then as the first general counsel to the MPD Fraternal Order of Police. Known for his honesty and charitable spirit, Mr. Jepsen also served as president of the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs. In recent years, he maintained a private legal practice in Crofton, where he lived for 47 years, raised three children, and supported the local Athletic Council coaching youth sports. He and his loving wife also enjoyed Annapolis, where they dined often with friends, especially at Carroll's Creek Cafe and at Galway Bay on trivia night. Mr. Jepsen often depicted the streets of Annapolis in the cherished, hand-painted Christmas cards he made for family and friends. Mr. Jepsen is survived by his wife, Donna, daughters Erika Robertson of Carolina Beach, NC, and Britta Dornan of Billings, Montana, son Haakon Jepsen of Wyckoff, NJ, sister Laurie Sonia of Newton, MA, brother Niels Jepsen of Glenwood Springs, CO, former wife, Kathleen Jepsen of Kennett Square, PA, and four grandchildren, three nieces, and three nephews. A private service will be held.

He was such a nice man, as I can recall fondly. Very supportive of his three children, whom I know like siblings. I´ve known Haakon and his sisters, Britta and Erika, for a lifetime. I grew up with them. His parents were always there... Haakon is an especially cherished friend of mine. My heart goes out to all of you. Much love to you all -Leigh DeLaurentis Hines

My heart aches for the entire family. I am guilty of not being a better friend - Bill was my friend since elementary school summers in Osterville Massachusetts. Bill was the kindest caring man. He will always be in my heart. May happy memories comfort Donna and all

Bill was one of a kind, a good and decent person with a spirited and generous heart from the time I met him at our beloved Catholic University of America. He made a difference in his life journey to those around him and contributed greatly to the Crofton community. I will cherish my memory of this wonderful friend.
