DAVID COLLINS Obituary
In 2011, congress recognized Mr. Collins as "the father of the barcode industry," and he holds several U.S. patents for his innovations.
Mr. Collins founded Computer Identics Corp. in Westwood, MA, in 1968, developing the first commercial barcodes and scanners, tools that would revolutionize manufacturing and service industries. In retail alone, globally, over 3 billion barcodes are scanned every day.
David Jarrett Collins was born on February 11, 1936, in Philadelphia. A two-time national champion in rowing, Mr. Collins later became a highly competitive sailor, regularly winning regattas in over 50 years on the water.
Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Joan, of Duxbury, their combined 8 children, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Family Church, Duxbury, on Saturday, March 19.
