Ruth Lloyd Obituary

Ruth Trammell Lloyd peacefully slipped away on Saturday, January 22, 2022, surrounded by her family. She loved God, loved her family, loved people and loved having fun. She lived her life with joy, fully putting her favorite Bible verse into practice: "This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Born October 9, 1927, Ruth was the fourth of Ross and Ethel Boteler Trammell's eight children, and always felt herself blessed to grow up in a big boisterous family. She was loving wife to Homer McCall Lloyd for over 57 years and wonderful mother to Dale and Marty, providing a warm happy home that was a gathering place for all. Everyone was always welcome at the Lloyd's house – youth groups from the church, someone needing to recover from surgery, someone needing a little mothering, or anyone else who needed a good meal and a good time. Blessed with a lively and witty sense of humor, she loved a joke and was known for playing pranks. Her children have fond memories of her as a frequent requested chaperone for their teenage activities because she was not only welcomed, but genuinely enjoyed, by all of their friends. She was truly a people person who never knew a stranger, for long, as she made them a friend. Her special gift was ministering to people, often in the form of a chicken tetrazzini casserole, a batch of sugared peanuts, or a poundcake, which she baked by the hundreds during her lifetime. Feeding the sick, visiting the lonely, teaching the children, she was a blessing to people. Ruth loved planning a get-together and cooking, and especially enjoyed being a part of the cookbook, "Auntfood," about the Trammell family. She was happiest throwing a big dinner for her immediate family, her large extended family, and her family of friends who weren't really kin at all. She was even known to invite in complete strangers who happened to visit church that day. The more people the better. It was sure she, and everyone around her, would have a laughing good time and leave well-fed. Ruth loved any adventure and travelled the world with her husband, family and friends, including countless trips all over the globe related to Homer's work with Rust Engineering and the Baptist Health System. They especially loved taking their family on wonderful trips to show them the beauty and wonders of the world. She and Homer were avid GA Tech football fans and she attended GA Tech games into her ninetieth year. The foundation of her life was her strong and unshakable faith. She was a longtime member of Ruhama Baptist Church, where she loyally taught 1st and 2nd Grade Sunday School for over 40 years, influencing countless young lives and gathering many funny stories she loved to tell. In later years, she became very active in Mountain Brook Baptist Church and treasured the wonderful friendships she built there, especially in her Grace Nelson Sunday School class and the 2nd Monday Book Club. Her faith blessed her with a positive outlook and happy attitude, which was contagious to all around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Homer McCall Lloyd; sisters, Emma Faye Trammell Graham, Margaret Trammell Williams, Jean Trammell Jackson and Gertie Trammell Walker; and brother, Dowell Trammell. She is survived by children Dale (Lynn) and Marty (Bill Crow); grandsons John Douglas (Keaton) and Jeff (Kate); and four great grandchildren, Grace Anne Lloyd, Hunter McCall Lloyd, Lottie Lloyd, and Lucy Ruth Lloyd. She is also survived by her sister Tommie Lou Williams, brother Bobby Ross Trammell (Judy), and many special nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and adored Aunt Ruth. She spent many happy later years at Saint Martins in the Pines, where she was blessed with exceptional caregivers. The Lloyd family is extremely grateful for the love and utmost care they gave her. She will be missed terribly. However, she was a devout woman of faith and we know that we will be reunited one day. Until then, our countless stories and memories will keep her close to our hearts. After a family graveside service on Wednesday, January 26, the family will receive friends at 10:00am at Mountain Brook Baptist Church. The service will follow at 11:00am.
