To Karene's family,
For the last week I have been sending messages to Karene with no reply. Today I got the courage to check death notices. I am just devastated that she died basically a day after I last spoke to her.
We have all lost a darling woman in every aspect of her life and I have lost my wonderful writing mate. She was a stunning co-author and even better friend.
I sending you my deepest aroha.

A highly respected school leader and colleague. Karen stood tall in education circles. Professional and caring, and always focused on the needs of her students.

Some of my favourite memories of Karene are of her coming to the farm at Lakeside and bringing some music with her. She'd sit and listen to all my latest accomplishments on the piano and play me some of hers and then we'd conquer some duets together. The joy on her face when she showed me a photo of some young men and said I was to pick out the most handsome one because that was her Don and she was in love! After I was married, meeting together with our children and watching Andrew and Elizabeth pick daffodils and feed lambs while we chatted like a few years apart had made no difference.
I was so sorry to hear that cancer had taken Karenes life. I pray that God surrounds you all with his comfort at this time. I'll be looking forward to the day that Karene and I get to play a duet in Heaven. Get the music sheets ready girl!!
