Dear Uncle Mark and my cousins Gabby, Ants and Katie

Thinking of you all at this sad time.

Following on from my brother, Matthew, I also have happy memories of meeting half way in Otorohanga and sitting and having picnic's all together under the trees on our way to stay at your house in Auckland.

As a little girl I remember my Auntie Ailette as being so pretty, happy and always smiling.

So sorry for your loss.

Dear Knight family, early memories of swapping houses between New Plymouth and Auckland involved meeting for lunch in Otorohanga, then pushing on for the final 4 hours (it took a long time in those days) before settling into your home for a few weeks. And more recently, for the birth of my children we always received gifts of soft toys, Auntie Aliette always choosing the kids 'favourite' toys that were much loved and now well worn! Happy memories.

Aliette Anne Knight

You were the very special fifth child of Betty and Lew Hinton who farmed near Stratford. Lois was the eldest, followed by three boys, Fergus (deceased) Robert and Bruce. Mum and Dad were extremely proud of you.

Thoughts from Lois. Dear little sister I'm missing your happy voice and smiling face already.

Memories from Robert. I doubled you on my bike from the farm on Victoria Road to Stratford Kindergarten. It was more than two miles up hill and the first half just metal. You sat on a specially made wooden seat which fitted over the bar. You got your own little bike when you went to Stratford Primary School. Happy memories Aliette.

Memories from Bruce. I was five when you were born and I remember Dad selling our little Morris 8 and buying a larger Morris Oxford so we could all fit in no seat belts then. With four children crammed in the back seat, and you on Mum's lap in the front, someone was sure to knock Mum's hat askew, much to her annoyance. Our childhood on the farm was busy but with many happy memories. RIP dear Aliette.

Dear Anne,
You have been my friend and co-worker at Porirua College for 17 years of your 27 years of service and dedication to the students of Porirua College. How compassionate and patient you always were with the students, many of whom were very nervous about stepping out into the big wide world, to do the work experience or holiday job you had organised for them.

I remember the student who kept not turning up for his work experience with a mechanic in Tawa. You were very concerned for this normally reliable student. You took him aside, told him he wasn't in trouble and asked him why he did not turn up. He finally told you very sheepishly, that he did not know how to catch a train. What a breakthrough Anne! You showed him how to catch the train, let him know to contact you if he got stuck and set him on his way. He is a qualified mechanic now.

That to me epitomises who you are. You have faith in people and they rise to meet your expectations of them, knowing you will be there for them when the going gets tough. So many students over those 27 years will have similar stories of how Ms Knight helped them.

As my dear friend and colleague, we had a unique connection you and I. We shared the same name, Anne (with an E), our birthdays were one day apart, I was 27 January and you were 28 January, we would often exchange birthday greetings and also commiserate with each other that sadly our birthdays fell on the first week of the school year. I remember fondly, countless long talks about work, family, grandchildren, exercise, holidays and fashion. My last long talk with you, was just before Christmas. You told me you had been unwell and you looked tired but when you asked me about Porirua College, colleagues and students your face lit up. It was clearly hard after 27 years in the job, not to be extremely curious about all the 'goings on'.

You have always been an Angel Anne....so no changes in that department. How blessed I feel to have known you and counted you as my friend. Thank you for your kindness and your humour. Thank you for seeing the best in all of us. How proud your fanau must be of you. May they find strength, joy and healing as they celebrate your life in the days ahead. May they continue to feel your loving presence in their lives in every story, in every memory and in every thing you have created with love for them. Thank you for everything old friend. God bless.
