Charles Henry Brown Sr., son of the late George O. Brown and Athalia Smith Brown, was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on July 27, 1938 and departed this life on November 17, 2020.
As a young man, Charlie also lovingly called “Chicken Man”, was educated in the Radnor Township School District, where he was the first black quarterback in the school’s history. Charlie was also a long-time member of the Radnor football “Has Beens”. Charlie attended and graduated from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where like at Radnor, he was also their first black quarterback. He was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Also, while attending Thaddeus, he was part of a quintet called, “The Rhythm and Blues Boys”. After College, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Alamogordo, New Mexico as well as Fort Gordon, Georgia. He served his country honorably and faithfully until he was discharged.
As a young boy, Charlie accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend William H. Waller at Second Baptist Church in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
In 1966, Charlie was united in holy matrimony to Rebecca Johnson. To this union, Charles Henry Brown Jr “Chuck” was born.
Charlie was a smart, funny, hard-working man that was very knowledgeable of the history and events of the Main Line. You knew you could always count on Charlie to remember exactly how things used to be and how much things have changed in the area. At a young age, Charlie worked with his father at the Wayne Presbyterian Church as a maintenance man. He went on to work for Sears & Roebuck in the St. David’s and the 63rd street stores in the automotive department until they went out of business. He then started working for Haverford College in the facilities management department and then retired after 10 years.
Charlie was preceded in death by his only brother George Jr and Cousin Seth Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving son Charles Jr. “Chuck”; nephew James (fiancé Iva); niece Robin; 5 great nephew’s/niece’s (Michael, Charlotte, Adrienne, Taylor and Christopher); cousins Doris, Betty, Butch, and Delores (m-Seth Jr) long-time lady friend, Jessie Godlock (her daughter Kathie); and a host of loving cousins, relatives and friends.

Many happy memories sharing experiences with Charlie through the years. Will always remember the wedding of the '60s when many of the family were participants in the services. Condolences to the family for your loss, and to Charlie, may you rest in peace.
