Bill was a "senior men's" gym member for many years in Waikanae. He was always a cheerful and friendly gym companion, resigning only when he became 90 years of age! He could not come to our last men's lunch but here is a good photo of Bill at a previous gym Christmas lunch. I was fortunate to see Bill at Eldon Care just weeks before he passed away. He was his positive and bright usual self.

It is unfortunate that Bill's colleagues and friends were unable to pay their respects at a funeral service because of the Covid-19 crisis and lock down. Bill worked in Broadcasting and I commenced a career in Broadcasting in 1957. At this time I only knew him from a distance, as he worked in the Engineering section and I started in the Programme department, eventually becoming the Music & Library Services Manager. I only got to know Bill personally when, in retirement, he joined The Clan MacMillan Society of New Zealand. Bill attended our social luncheons, the last occasion being in November (2019) for our pre-Christmas function at the Fishermans Table Restaurant in Paekakariki. Bill made a significant contribution to the development of radio and television broadcasting in New Zealand and Fiji during the middle decades of the twentieth century. He was a kind, friendly and generous gentleman whom I visited on several occasions in his Paraparaumu Beach home in Bluegum road and we will miss his friendly interaction when we are able to meet socially again after Covid-19.
