Wallace METCALFE Obituary

So sorry to discover Wally has died. Unforgettable Dr who had an absolute vocation for the mahi. He had an unusual ability to meet and trust people on a human and equal level. He would go and make home visits to his old patients and visit the Home of Compassion as a matter of course. Wally was a brilliant home birth (and hospital) Dr who had full confidence in women to be able to deliver their babies, whatever the circumstances.

Must have been the very best doctor I have ever had. First met him late 70s into early 80s at the GPs Surgery Wellington. Brilliant doctor, fascinating human being and a gentleman. I was so saddened to hear of his death in 2018 and it came as an huge shock to me. He leaves a full legacy through his work and his children. My best wishes to Nikki and his children and I do hope one of you becomes a doctor too.

To Wally, from the medical students you taught and passed on your wisdom, spirit and humour while on Norfolk. Your impact on this world and us will never be forgotten. Our deepest condolences to your parter and family. May you rest in peace.

I was so shocked to discover by chance, the premature passing of Dr Wally Metcalfe in Melbourne. He was my Doctor in the 80's and delivered my son with great care and attention in the privileged days for women when Doctors could attend on us from the first maternity appointment at the surgery to delivery day in the Hospital. He had excellent character and wit, and was an awesome Doctor who will always be remembered by me with a smile! My very sincere condolences to Wally's children, partner and Whanau.
