CFO Trevor Bean was an SSO & recruit Officer when I first joined Wellington Fire Service in 1972. He was a fair man, excellent teacher & easy to get along with. I admired him as he was a no nonsense fireman to us but very considerate. Always remember the time when we had the Solomans Sauna Fire on Willis St one night when a few firemen were hospitalized & myself & Merv Gaskin [DCD] met Trevor [a DO then] head on at the bottom storey as the gas inferno was blow backing. He asked us where we came from & I told him from the roof --- he was shocked that us 2 Maori were unscathed even though our mask buckles were digging into our cheeks from the heat dragging a hose down! After that I stayed put at Thorndon Fire Station "I think" thanks to Trevor????...... I just heard of his passing as I write & my sincere sympathy & sadness to all his whanau in memory of a man I & others had a lot of time for & fond memories under his command......He will always be remembered .....Arohanui Trevor RIP until we meet again...

Like so many people, Trevor was a true friend to us all. I worked with Trevor over the whole of my Fire Service career and was privileged to be a part of his life and family on many occasions. Sadly, I was not able to attend the memorial service, but I acknowledge his passing and extend my sympathies to the family. RIP my friend. Graham Wrigley (Christchurch)
