Timothy MCKENZIE Obituary

Thought of Tim today - we worked together at the doctors at Wairarapa Addiction Service many years ago. He was also a classmate at Otago. Always ready with a joke, as so many others have noted, and a man who always lifted people's spirits. RIP Tim, you left a hole that for many people still hasn't been filled.

Was so sad to hear the news of your passing. Thank you so much for all your help, compassion and you wicked crazy humour over the past 25+ years. You were an amazing Dr and nothing was ever too much trouble or effort and you will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest In Peace Tim.

Tuesday 22 August, 2018, Just found out our whanau member of our Newlands & Johnsonville community, Dr Tim McKenzie had passed. We have kept him in our prayers since 2017...so sad to hear. Tim has always been a valued member and Dr of our family for over 20 some years. He attended college with my brother, such a great friend and the best family doctor ever. We are both deeply shocked and send love and our deepest condolence for the family. The quickest dry wit...and funniest human being, I thank the lord for having had him in our lives... J&D Woods Johnsonville and the Ru family Newlands.

I have only just today learned of Tim's passing last month, having been out of the country for a while in July. Tim was my GP for over 21 years, as well as for my partner and daughter, who is very close in age to Olivia and who he delivered. I personally missed him a great deal over the last 12 months during my first real period of ill-health, and while ably cared for by others, there will never be another Tim. He knew (and remembered) everything important about family, work and so on and could be relied on to keep you talking, very possibly into the next appointment space! We are all so saddened at Tim's passing, and very sorry we were not here to attend his farewell. We will often reminisce and think of him. Sincere condolences to Deb, Matt, Lucy and Olivia and his wider family. He was one of the nice guys in this world, one of the best. May he rest in peace and fly high up there.

When I was searching for a LMC 21 years ago I chose Tim. He has been the family doctor ever since. He always took an extra few moments to catch up on what the children were up to and had very sound parenting advice. We always found something to have a joke about. Tim will be sorely missed but I am thankful that I knew such a great guy. Kia kaha to his family.

Very sad to know about Dr Tim Mckenzie's untimely demise. He was GP for my wife, Shashi and me for 19 years. More than that he was a friend and a dependable guide. We are shattered with this news. We are at present in USA, and surely like to pay personal condolences to his family, when we return to New Zealand next week.

Tim a Legend in his own time.He rang me in Hospital see how I was doing after an incident at work in 99 which took me outa circulation for over 10 years. I put getting back to where I am today down to this GREAT Man as there were some truly Dark Times. His Jokes what a guy I cryed when I heard the news and wished I could have attended his day. He had a way with people you knew where e was coming from and you were his sole attention whilst you were seeing him. Some Funny stuff he did was at least 3 times he said sit over there I said why he said I think it's time to put you down or Buggered if I know got out his rubber Chicken said how's about some VooDoo or after seeing him 3 times in 1 week he said if ya come back 1 more time this week I can go buy a new Honda and or when he did a home visit (as nurse was having trouble getting staple outa me back) he walked and said I feel like I am in a scene from Dr Finlays case book......

One thing I can never repay was his determination to get me back Flying again and he did I suspect he was more excited (just slighlty more than me) when I told him i had my Pilots licence back and flying still to this day.

Tim it was an Honour & Privilage to have crossed your path in this life you will forever be part of mine.

I always enjoyed seeing Tim at various meetings and committees. Not afraid to speak truth to power! He will be missed but always remembered.

I worked with Tim briefly at Newlands early in my GP career, he was very supportive and had a great sense of humour. My thought are with the McKenzie family at this time.

Tim hosted me in his practice for my first GP attachment at medical school, more than 20 years ago. He was a great teacher, a kind person and an excellent GP. Rest In Peace Tim.

So very saddened to hear of Tims passing. He was not only our family doctor for 25 years but a wonderful caring man as well. Every time I visited him I always lusted over the gorgeous pottery clown sculpture on his desk and always joked I would be first in line if he ever was to grow tired of it.

I just can't believe you have left us Tim. You were my GP for over 25 years. You were the BEST!! Always joking with me and in the earlier years you always asked me for my Trademe tips. You helped me through so many struggles and I was really wanting to come and see you and let you know I finally got a break and am working again. A lot of that was down to your help. Dr Tim very sad news - you deserved better. Making your patients feel better and making them all feel special with your humour, cheeky banter and caring nature was a rear gift that you shared with us. Our family have so many special memories - all positive. One I will share = I remember meeting up with Dr Tim at the supermarket, going thru checkout, Tim had a'couple' of Heinken slabs in his trolley while munching down on a large packet of chips - he advised that this was his version of a balanced diet - who was I to disagree after all he was our doctor and a trained professional, all said with that cheeky smile. To your family all the very best for the comming days and times ahead he as you would know was a very special person that cared greatly and was very proud of you.

We were sad to hear the news that Tim has passed away. The impact he had on our family was incredible and he was all you could ever wish for in a family DR. I know my children all have fond memories of their visits to Dr Tim. I'm sure he spent more time talking rugby to the boys than he did anything else. It was a massive pleasure and honour to work with Tim & colleagues at Newlands Medical Centre a few years ago. He and the wonderful McKenzie family were so welcoming to me as I got to know Wellington and my wife Pip with her interest in WEIT. Such an amazing man and excellent GP I have rarely met in NZ or the UK. He will be remembered by us very fondly for many years to come wherever we are (Tim gave me some good advice when we saw him at the start of this year and I haven't forgotten it!). We are so saddened to hear of Tim's passing. Tim was a great family doctor to our four children. He was kind, practical, thorough and lots of fun. No matter what the issue was, we would leave having had a laugh about something. It was always a pleasure to visit Tim.

Dr Tim .. what is there left to say. So many have said it all. You were my rock. There are very few that went as far as you did to care for their patients and yet still ensure we all knew you had a family of your own that you were immensely proud of. Missing you deeply. I think you are still up on the joke score.

It was a wonderful service for an amazing man who clearly meant so much to us all.

As the crowd came out of the service a person walking down the street asked, "Why is this church so busy?" When told it was a service to celebrate a life she asked, "Was it someone famous". I think Tim could be described as famous, certainly memorable, in the best of ways.

I am grateful for the support and guidance Tim provided as my GP for nearly 30 years. He had a special way of connecting with people and felt like a friend. He was certainly a fantastic role model.

It was wonderful to hear the most important people to him share their memories.

So sad to hear of the loss of a very caring and genuine man who was a great doctor and friend. From the time that he got me involved with his family as Matt's Basketball Coach at Onslow College to the last time we caught up at the Medical Centre he has always been a loyal friend with real integrity. He made going to the doctor so much easier with his humour and wit and we would always have a chat about sport and his family. I have no doubt he will continue be an amazing friend and confidant in his new life.

Tim became our family doctor in 1992 a week after the birth of our son Oliver. D Tim was one in a million! You could talk to him as you could a friend. He was funny and completely genuine and down to earth whilst providing the best medical care. He even managed to joke after my son threw up on him! The medical profession has suffered a great loss! Debs, Matt, Lucy and Olivia. Although I never met you in person your husband and Dad we so into his family. He was there when I gave birth to my son(funnily enough Matt was born exactly a month later - he was so excited about becoming a Dad). I was shocked to hear of Tim's illness and always hoped that he would be back on deck, so to hear of his passing is totally gutting. Tim was a doctor that you could trust and talk about anything with. He was a straight shooter and took the time to talk with you about any of your problems or worries. Tim McKenzie was a fantastic doctor and a fantastic person he will be greatly missed.

Dr Tim had been a fantastic doctor to my family over many, many years. So, it is very sad to hear of his passing.
I have a few funny stories that I remember fondly about Tim when he was involved in my medical care. When I was a teenager suffering from the measles, he took one look at me and said, "Ring the hospital, this is the worst case I have ever seen!" When I looked up at him with complete terror, he laughed and said, "Just joking, you'll be right" and then proceeded to give his medical advice on what to do.
When I gave birth to my first born over 20 years ago, Tim was the Dr and during labour I remember him giving my husband a whack on the head to alert him to have a look and see what was going on. It was a bit tricky for my other half as I had him in a headlock! It was hilarious and Tim made me laugh even through all the pain! Funny what you remember.
I send my thoughts to Tim's family during this time and also to say, thank you Dr Tim, for looking after our family for many years. RIP.

Gutted by Tim's passing. I have known him for almost a lifetime, would have been in my late teens or early twenties when we met and I am 52 now. He delivered my daughter and was always there for me. We had many laughs together and he always made me feel better and less anxious about my health. I feel like I lost a friend as well as a doctor. RIP dear man.
