Timothy FAIRHALL Obituary

FAIRHALL, Timothy John:
Tim left this world peacefully on the morning of 12th March 2020. He was a true gentleman of this world, taken too soon at only 67. Dearly loved husband of Margaret. Much loved father and father-in-law of James & Karen, and Caroline & Steve. Cherished brother of Susanne and Adrienne. Adored Grandad of Orla and Lachlan. Tim was a wonderfully kind and generous man and he will be sorely missed by his extended family, friends and all who had the pleasure of meeting this incredibly beautiful human being. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mary Potter Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service or https://marypotter.org.nz/support-us/donations/. A celebration of Tim's life will be held at the Public Trust Hall, 131-135 Lambton Quay, Wellington, on Wednesday 18th March at 2.00pm, followed by a private cremation.

I met Tim for the first time in Zambia where we worked together temporarily (as I was on a contract with Coopers & Lybrand in the Lusaka office). We met again after my emigration to NZ and we both then worked in the Wellington office of C&L (BB&S) until my departure in 1979. I was saddened to hear of Tim's passing, who was a genuine and friendly gentleman who I was pleased to know. We briefly met up in the mid-90s, on a return trip to Wellington. I often think about these passing acquaintances and he was one of the best.

Dear Margaret , Caroline, James and families,

We have fond memories of Tim, his friendliness and wonderful smile. We served on the Scout committee together many years ago, I remember Tim and I trying to cancel a cub camp in the middle of winter. What an argument that was with the other hardened members of the Khandallah scouts! Whats more we actually won and the camp was cancelled.
Walking with you at Waikarimoana was so much fun, lots of laughs especially Tim and I trying to stare at a waterfall to make it seem like the water was flowing up hill. He managed to focus long enough, but it still eludes me!

Its over 35 years since we first met and watched our respective families grow up. Tim will be sadly missed and we all feel privileged to know him.

Thinking of you all

Dear Margaret, James, Caroline and families,

When I started my accounting career at Barr Burgess & Stewart in Dunedin in February 1973 I didn't know that a young man called Tim Fairhall was doing the same thing in Wellington.

Our careers collided when we met for the first time in the late 1970s while working as auditors at Coopers & Lybrand in London.

Roll the clock forward a little further and we took over the rent of 29 A Old Coach Road Johnsonville at the beginning of 1980 when Tim and Margaret purchased their first house. Forty years have passed by in a flash, and Tim and I have been involved in a host of things together throughout that time. I am struggling to come to terms with the fact that Tim will not walk through my office doors again.

We extend our deepest sympathies to you and you are in our thoughts at this sad time.

We arrived back in New Zealand this morning, and so are now in isolation for 14 days. We will be unable to attend Tim's service this afternoon. We will sit in quiet reflection remembering the moments that Tim has interacted with our lives.

With love and best wishes from Graeme and Jocelyn Fountain.

Steve, Orla and all of the Roberts family are deeply saddened by the loss of Tim. We are further saddened not being able to be with Caroline, Margaret, James and Karen, Susanne, Adrienne and everyone celebrating Tim's life in Wellington on Wednesday 18th March.

Tim was a great father in law to Steve, the most amazing Grandad to Orla and always a special member of our family.

We will remember his gentle, kind and caring way, which we see in both Caroline and Orla. We will never forget him and will talk about him often.

All of our love.

Dear Margaret
So very sorry to hear about Tim. I met Tim through Ron Blair in those early flatting days in Wellington. Then you and Tim lived above Judi and me in the Blackheath flat in London. Years later we reconnected when we played golf at Millbrook at a tournament. We remember the fun times. However, we now send our condolences and best wishes to you, Margaret and your family.

My thoughts to the family. Also thank Tim for the help and encouragement he gave me.

March 16, 2020

the trips to family farm at Kotu, Tinui to see the manager Simon in the early mid 2000's with Tim were some of the happiest days of my life. He was such an inspiration and role model to so many people and such a gifted sports mam . He was so brave during his fight and just 7 weeks ago when Teresa and I visited he was so positive and happy to see us and so believing he could win the fight. Rest in peace you will never be forgotten.

Our sincere condolences on the passing of Tim.

Dear Margaret, Susanne and Adrienne
It is with absolute sorrow that I express my sense of loss on the passing of Tim, and my thoughts are with you all.
Tim and I flated together for 4 years , while at University, as you know, and built a strong friendship enjoying all the experiences one has with mates in those formative years. Tim was indeed always supportive and kind and generous. We enjoyed many many of lifes experiences together not the least of which involved our academic endeavours and our sporting aspirations.
I am truly sorry I will be unable to attend his service but I am in Melbourne and dont come back until Tuesday to start my 14 days self isolation.
Rest assured I am confident Tim's values and ethics will live on in his extended family, a family that means so much to me.
A true mate that I will miss so very much.
