Thomas MINNEE Obituary

Dammit Thom, I've only just found out. When I heard, I wondered 'What kind of mess have you gotten yourself into this time?' I downloaded your thesis and I'm going to give an honest go at understanding it. I teared up when I say you mentioned me in the acknowledgments. Finding someone else with the curiosity and drive to understand, to Really Understand just for its own sake, is rare, even in academia. I really enjoyed our late night chats. Contrary to your advice, I tried teaching myself about hypergeometric functions. I still don't know what they're for.
I thought we had more time. It's been intellectually lonely outside of academia. I did the classic kiwi thing of treating you like an inexhaustible resource, a friend I could talk to once every three years that would always be there. I wish I had invited you over more. I wish I had gotten your contact details after you deleted facebook. People come and go but you were irreplaceable.

I had few times with Thom, but they were good times and times of laughter. Sad to hear of his passing, my thoughts are with the family :(

Words cannot tell you how sad I was to hear of Tom's passing, only last night. I know you are a very close family and also know that you all will take care of each other, My deepest love and sympathy to you all.
