BUTT, Terence John (Terry):
Terry died peacefully at Sevenoaks Lodge, Paraparaumu, on Sunday, 28 March 2021. Dearly loved husband of Barbara (Williams). Much loved by his sisters Joan Hansen, Maureen Metcalfe, Lyn Jarvis and the late Alan Miller and their children. Loving father of Aaron, Sarah and Damon. Terry was dearly loved by Barbara's family; her daughters Emma, Kate and Victoria and husband Danny and grandchildren Milla, Sammy, Lizzie, Lottie and Isla. Loved and respected by Barbara's sisters Lib and Jane and their husbands Mark and Hugh and children Simon and Haydee, Matt and Heidi, James and Emma, Livvy, Laura and Mark and their respective children. With many thanks to the dedicated and caring staff in Ward 7 North Wellington Hospital, Ward 5 at Kenepuru Hospital and for far too short a period in Kauri House and Matai wing at Sevenoaks Lodge for their loving care of Terry. Terry had a long career with New Zealand Red Cross, both nationally and internationally for which he received a Counsellor of Honour Award. Prior to his international career with Red Cross, he worked at the Welcome Institute in Dunedin and on retirement from Red Cross as CEO of Volunteer Service Abroad. Along with his love for humanity, Terry loved exploring and climbing in the New Zealand mountains and bush particularly in the Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Parks. In later life, he was able to develop his passion for astronomy from his observatory at Te Horo. Donations would be welcome to New Zealand Red Cross Society. Terry's life will be celebrated at St Margaret's Church, School Rd, Te Horo at 11.00am, on Tuesday 6 April 2021. Messages c/- PO Box 300, Waikanae.

We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Terry. It was our pleasure to assist him with computer services and electronic bits & pieces over the last 20+ years. I will miss the intellectual conversations and his quick witted character. Visiting him in his observatory will always remain a memory. Condolences from The Computer Place.

Dear Barbara and Family, we are deeply saddened to hear of Terry's passing. As you celebrate his life be comforted by the many live's that Terry has touched over many years. In Red Cross Terry was a Toanga that we will miss keenly. It was a pleasure to have met him and been the recipient of his great wisdom and sense of humour! With deepest condolences, Peter Scott

Dearest Barbara
I am saddened to hear that Terry has passed away and send you and your families
my thoughts and sincere sympathy .
As well as a huge loss for you, I think humanity is the poorer for his passing.Terry had a special mana and aura. I always admired how humble he was.He had an ability to communicate with people with gentleness, dignity and respect. His very important work with the Red Cross made a huge impact in the development of many Red Cross societies particularly in the Pacific.
May Terry rest now in peace
Our thoughts of sadness to you from Glenys and other older delegates who knew Terry .
With love and respect
Glenys Checchi
