Sylvia MEADE Obituary

MEADE, Sylvia Age 88, passed away suddenly, in the loving arms of her youngest daughter, on August 30, 2021. She was in her hometown, Montreal, visiting friends and family. Sylvia was born on August 24, 1933, a daughter of the late Irene and Sydney Bryant. Proud mother of Sharon Meade (Gerard De Abreu) and Catherine Meade (Kathy Katsunoff) and loving grandmother to Bryant (Laina) and Catie De Abreu and great-grandmother to Kaden De Abreu. She was predeceased by husband, Rev. Eustace Meade, and by four brothers and one sister. She will be deeply missed by many other relatives and dear friends. Sylvia attended the London Bible Institute (now Tyndale), where she met Eustace. She graduated in 1960 and they married shortly thereafter. She had a successful administrative career that started at Canadair in 1950 and ended at York University in 1994 with breaks for college and childrearing. Sylvia will long be remembered for her stylishness, infectious laugh and her many contributions to the communities and churches where Eustace pastored: Fingal Baptist Church, Fingal, ON; Zion United Baptist Church, Truro, NS; The United Baptist Stone Church, Clark's Harbour, NS; First Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church in Toronto, ON. Visitation: Friday, September 10th, 4-8 p.m. at Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Avenue E., Scarborough. Funeral service: Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 a.m., also at Highland.

We worked together at York University, and remained close after both of us had retired Sylvia was the epitome of a good, loving & faith sustained person. She was both a wonderful administrator, & the dearest & most loyal friend on earth. Her love for others, especially her daughters and their families was boundless. She also made wonderful crafts & artworks. It was wonderful to visit her apartment, with its portraits of Martin Luther King. It was an honour, always, to be in Sylvia's presence, & an incredible privilege to be helped by her prayers. A loved person is gone, at least from this plane.

To The Meade Family;
Please accept my deepest condolences of the passing of Mrs. Meade.
She was an amazing woman who was greatly underestimated. She had a genuine love for people especially woman. She taught me that there is strength in people who work behind the scenes.
My husband and I were married in 1992 at First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Meade. Mrs. Meade called us every year to wish us a happy anniversary. She never missed a year and always made sure to talk to us personally. It was never a 1 minute conversation nor did she ever forget what we talked about the last time she called! On the 27th year she called to encourage me after the passing of my husband.
I will truly miss her.
RIP... until we meet again

Mrs. Meade was an incredible woman who gave a lot of her time and energy to the church community. She genuinely cared about people especially the women around her. She never forgot to call us, every year on our anniversary and would remember the conversation from the previous year. She did this for 26 years! On the 27th year she called me to cheer me up after my husband's sudden death.
She will forever be in my heart.
My condolences to the entire Meade family. May God give you His perfect peace at this difficult time.
With love, Angela Stevens,
First Baptist Church family
