Susanna van der KWAST Obituary

van der KWAST,
Susanna Maria (Suzy):
Peacefully with family by her side following a courageous battle at Te Hopai Home and Hospital on Thursday 8th November 2018, aged 80 years young. Adored wife of the late Anton (Tom). Dearly loved mother of Bart and mother- in-law of Angela. Beloved Oma of Ava, Romy and Michael. Loved sister, sister-in-law, and adored auntie of her large family in New Zealand and the Netherlands. Survived by her two brothers Tony and Herman Bekhuis. Dearly loved friend to many. Suzy touched and inspired the lives of many people through her significant achievements and contribution to the city of Wellington and its café culture. She leaves a lasting legacy and will be sorely missed. Suzy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and carers at Te Hopai Home and Hospital for their wonderful care of Suzy. In lieu of any flowers we please request a donation to the Te Hopai Trust. A donation box will be available on her Memorial Day. A memorial service and celebration of Suzy's amazing life will be held on Friday 30th November 2.00pm at The Michael Fowler Centre. Further details to follow closer to the time. I went to work for Suzy just before she took time out to have her son. Suzy's cafe was an exciting place for a naive girl coming to live in the big city. Her training was second to none and taught me skills that have served me well in all subsequent jobs. Thank you Suzy for enriching my life.

You were a generous employer, always concerned that your staff had a good meal. After a busy day, you'd often slip us a bit of extra cash.

Safe journey Suzy. I know you'll pay the ferry man well. You don't know any other way.

A lovely lady full of class lost to Wellington. I have fond memories of visiting Susanna's coffee shop during the early 80's.
