Ruth Olive (Sally):
(1929 - 2022)
Sally passed away peacefully at Lower Hutt Hospital, on 22 March 2022. Devoted and loving wife to Bill for 64 years (he passed away in November 2021), she was the much loved Mum of Wendy and Tira Carroll and their whānau: Maree, Tania, Mike, Hayley, Cory and Clinton; Chris and Joanne and their whānau: Alisa, Sophie, Christopher and Maia; Paul and Charlotte; and Mandy and her whānau: Brianna and Charlie. Great-grandmother to 18 and great-great-grandmother to 20 beloved grandchildren. Sally is also survived by her sisters-in-law Ev Hollings (Masterton), Ngaire Blake (Lower Hutt), and Pat Hayston (Upper Hutt), and her step-sister Dawne Springer (Australia). Born in Masterton, she lived most of her life in Stokes Valley, and retired to Summerset at the Course, Trentham in 2020. She trained as a shorthand typist and, after the family was raised, was a longtime employee of Woolworths (Lower Hutt) and Wellington Print Finishers (Petone), was an enthusiastic golfer and leisure marcher with 'Crackerjacks'. We especially thank the staff at Summerset at the Course for their care of Sally and Bill over these past months of their declining health, and Mum's Summerset friends: Alison, Veronica and Sharlene. If you would like to visit Sally she will be at Gee & Hickton Lower Hutt, on Thursday 24 March 2022, between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm. A service for Sally will be held at Cornwall Manor, corner Knights Road and Cornwall Street, Lower Hutt, on Friday 25 March 2022, at 10.30am, followed by refreshments. Sally will be farewelled later in the day at a family cremation. The service will also be live streamed, please contact Gee & Hickton for the details.
