Firstly I wish to offer my heartfelt condolences to Sir Ron's extended family at this time. I also wish to acknowledge Sir Ron for his progressive work, together with my father Evan Williams and their Team, firstly in 1966 when they travelled to Kingston Jamaica, then again in 1970 via Commonwealth countries to Edinburgh, Scotland when the six man team finally won the bid to host the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. That Sir Ron and my Dad kept in contact over the years is a great testament to their depth of friendship and mutual respect. That Sir Ron flew from Wellington to Christchurch to attend my father's funeral in 2015 and willingly shared his musings about those times meant a great deal to both me and my sister Rose Charles, and our wider whanau. Sir Ron's speech taught me so much about my father that I did not realise and I am indebted to him for his energies that day. May you eternally rest in peace Sir Ron.

One of the privileges and pleasures in my life in NZ has been my time around Ron - and through this, meeting with Bev, Randall et al.
Everything I would like to say will - or has been - said by more notable folk than I - but Ron should be remembered by all in this country as a man above most, but never out of reach for anyone.
To be as A - political as Ron was a developed skill : to be such a leader was a natural gift . He is well remembered .

To Beverley, Randall, Lisa, Jordan and families.
We are very saddened to read of the passing of Ron. Please accept our deepest sympathy at your great loss.
Ron and I and others in the '74 Games Team, faced many challenges along the way and we took them on, one at a time. The great comradship and enthusiasm we had as a team for our end goal and your leadership ensured we reached our objectives - a very succesful '74 Commonwealth Games which have forever endured and became known the "Friendly Games".

Such wisdom Sir Ron shared with me and so many others through from the 1984 Commonwealth Games, through to the Hillary Commission and in the last project we worked on together as the Chair of the National Talent ID Taskforce at SPARC.. A gentleman and leader who put in place the foundations of the sporting system we all benefit from today. So influential for so many. My thoughts are with Beverly and your family
