Rod WALSH Obituary

22 October 1954 – 22 January 2024

69 years young. Dearly loved husband of Jenni for 40 years. Devoted and loving father and father-in-law of Gemma (Melbourne), Alana & Rikki (London), Ben & Kate (Perth) and Ashleigh & Matt (Auckland). Doting grandfather to Cami (almost 2) and was eagerly awaiting the birth of Stevie in April this year. Loved only son of Marlene and John Walsh (deceased 2001), much loved son-in-law of Phyllis & Barry Jenness. Tragically killed in a mountain biking accident on 22nd January in Auckland. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him, especially the mountain bike and motorbike crew he knew so well. Nicknamed "Rocket Rod" so many years ago, he lived life to the max, but always lived it with friends and family. The service will be livestreamed with access available on Rod's online profile via the website below. Messages to the family may also be made via his profile. A celebration of Rod's life will be held at Cornwall Manor, Cnr of Knights Road and Cornwall Street, Lower Hutt, on Wednesday 31 January 2024 at 10.30am, followed by a private cremation.

Roddy was one of my best mates. We shared a similar sense of humour and I always liked to hear him laugh.
It had a joyful ring that was contagious.
Miss you Rod

It is with deep sadness that we have heard of Rod's passing. I have worked with Rod on many projects that he did in the Wellington region for my team and I at APS in Auckland. We all enjoyed his attitude and helpfulness, and I personally will miss him and our non-work-related conversations around mountain biking and life in general. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all his family and friends. We will plant a tree in his name on our conservation block in his memory.
From the Team at APS Ltd: Simon Coombes, Darren Gibson, Haley Nambia, Rosie Neale.
