We just learned of Rick's death, and we are truly saddened and very sorry to hear. We understand what you are going through, and its ok to keep crying. We also know its not possible to contact everyone, and after viewing the funeral, we also know, there were a huge number of people to communicate with. Rick meant a lot to our family, he remained a friend since our father died in 1976. He had no need to do that, forty five years after his friend died, he continued to tell us stories that we would have otherwise never known about dad. Rick to us was the greatest example of friendship we will ever know. I once asked him why he kept in touch and helped mum so much? He said "that's what Frank would have done". You already know how special Rick was, and to many people too, but to us, he rewrote the definition of the word "friend", and we will never forget him, we will miss him. Regards Bill & Judy

To the Lowe family,
Rick was an incredibly caring man who loved a giggle. He was great friends with our parents Mick and Leonie for many years and made everyone laugh so much with the crazy Waikanae beach vs Waikanae hill debate. Rick never missed a visit to see our mother when her health went downhill. Even when his own mobility was not the best, he always visited Mum. Rick had a heart of gold. Our deepest sympathies to the Lowe family.

Having just watched the wonderful service for Rick it brought back so many memories of the time I spent working with Rick during his latter time with National Mutual. Tom your reflections on Rick's life were just so accurate brought back a tear or two as I listened to your eulogy - so well delivered. Rick was a wonderful human being and my thoughts are very much with his family. Peter Standish

I have just watched a remarkably fine funeral so befitting and reflective of the person Rick was. Knowing Rick only since his stroke I learnt a lot about Rick I did not know but I also witnessed first hand his strength of character, fantastic attitude to life, determination and generosity. It was lovely to see Rick's legacy shine in his family. Thank you Rick and thank you to your family for a wonderful service.

Together with Jay & John our paths have crossed many times over the years. Rick was always the life of any occasion, loved his Jaguar E type cars ,and remembered by everybody he met.

Rick had a great passion for chess and was a regular at the Kapiti club for the past 12 years. He always played with a smile on his face and he had a wicked sense of humour. The effort he made to get to the Club, due to his limited mobility in later years, was in itself inspiring. He will be sorely missed by his chess friends.

Rick was a great mate and friend to our wider family. We caught up many times over the last 50 years. He was such a fun guy to be around. Our recent contact was by phone just a couple of months ago. He sounded so positive despite his health challenges. Many condolences to his family. Rest in peace my friend.

Rick was a great personality at Kapiti Chess Club. He had a wonderful chess themed car. His chess playing ability did not match his enthusiasm but it didn't matter to either Rick or his opponent. Rick knew how to enjoy the game and is missed by his chess friends.

Hello Lowes, Right about now Di, Mum (Carolyn) and Rick will be supping the first of many drinks to celebrate the best parts of their lives. For those of us left behind, we have a lifetime of amazing memories to share. When bucket hats became fashionable again, all I could think of was Mr Lowe and his bucket hats and very uncool checkered flares sprawled across the floor in the family room at 34a Messines Rd watching Coronation Street. And he had that uproarious laugh which could probably be heard in neighbouring suburbs. He was also the first person, outside of the Diessl fam to have his photo taken on my first camera which I got for my 9th birthday. The OG Clan of Messines Rd is getting smaller but we have a lot to celebrate and stories to pass on. All my love, Geet xxx

Dearest Kerry, Pip, Bridget, Sunny and Tom, I am thinking of you all at this time. All the magnificent memories of Waikanae have come flooding back games, tennis matches, big parties, time with the Diesel’s and Prestons. not to mention racing around Waikanae in the E-type! I have such fond memories of my teenage years with you all! May Rick be skidding around above forever! I can’t imagine heaven will stop him. Much love to all of you and the grandchildren. Lucy Whyte
