Rex was my best man when Gail and I got married in Amersham, UK back in May 1972. Soon after the wedding Gail and I left for Australia, and Rex and Jan went back to NZ. Rex and I had a lot of fun together during our friendship in 1971/72. Sadly we lost touch. My condolences to his family. RIP Rex, my friend.

We wish we had known you longer. You were the best thing to happen to our dear close friend Adrienne, we are so glad you brought her happiness.

Rex and I worked together closely in the 1980's leading the Local Government Employers Assn and on the massive local government reform project in 1989.
He was one of life's great characters and a real leader in the industry through that challenging time. He was a good friend to many and a especially to me through some tough times.
My thoughts are with the Kirton family at this sad time.

I remember Rex at school (Silverstream). As I recall he was captain of the First XV. I was a lowly third former. We looked up to Rex. It's sad to see his passing but there you have it. Regards Jeremy Laurenson
